Warhawk. A.K.A. Super Stalker.

I think stalkers might be better than warhawks in firepower.

So I'd be mostly mounting missiles and ballistics for a medium-close range mech

Its really a question of playstyle and skill. Are you a good Assault pilot or a better Heavy pilot?
If you are a better Heavy pilot you may want the Warhawk.

Dire is very powerful but also very demanding of skill and patience. Positioning is an art, even more so with the Dire. Get in a bad position, you likely die, no re-do's.

Warhawk is a LITTLE more forgiving. You have better speed and better arm movement. The Warhawk can carry near 90 damage firepower. Warhawk has better quirks, particularly, Missile, ERPPS, and Ballistic.

So whats the downside of the Warhawk??? Well, 1st-ly...the hitboxes are sh*t. Literally the OPPOSITE of the Stalker.
However you twist, turn, your CT and STs are very easy to pick off and are big. I cant remember the last time i was legged in a Warhawk.

Second detriment to the Warhawk is the fixed equips. 10 hard wired DHS, left torso...full. Building is...interesting...and mixed loadouts and TC2+ in the Warhawk are common because you may end up with left over tonnage. Space is a premium. You have to be creative or desperate with placing ammo.

Playstyle-wise, you really dont want to Brawl in either unless its late match. Dire is too slow to turn.move. Warhawk is too squishy despite having 85 tons of armor.
Dire can deadside pretty well and can run some good builds. I prefer Gauss+vomit for the peeking. Dakka-Wahles are good but i dont prefer the facetime commitment. Main builds: 2Gauss,2LPL,3-4ERML. 4UAC10. 5UAC5.

Warhawks can run about anything other than 3+ Dakka. Really its pretty flexible. But you only get 2ballistic but you get nice quirks. 20%cooldown and 30% jam on Dakka. Not bad.
2UAC10
2LPL, UAC10
2Gauss
gauss+2LPL+3ERML
5MPL+LRM30-45(only LRM boat i run other than HBK-J)
4LPL
5ERLL+TC5(or less+moar DHS-your choice)
2LPL, 3ERML,3ASRM6
1LPL, 4MPL, 4ASRM6!!!!!!
4ERPPC
LRM60, 1erll

With the Warhawk, dont fight alone, try not to brawl-even with the SRM builds. Master the drive-by.

Dire is more about setting up firing lanes and hoping your team/Pug covers you.

Hope this helps.

Stalkers tank WAY better. Warhawks can carry a higher Alpha/DPS/DPS.

For CW, usually the Daishi. Being a large slow heavy weapons platform hinders the Poor Daishi in normal queue. In CW, you've the enemy being funneled into actual firing lanes, and teammates who will actually travel with you. The Masakari can be dropped with in normal matches and do fine, but the Daishi, the Daishi is practically made for CW. yes, It means your taking a light later on, but there is nothing else out that that can lay down the kind of firepower that slow lunky 100 tonner can.

Sure, you could bring the Masakari so you can drop heavier mechs later. Or, and this is just a preference mind you, you could drop in a Daishi and try get all your kills early. Still, I'd suggest you enjoy playing lights if this is your plan.

*Disclaimer, I own neither, with my Assault choice being the Man'o'War, Cuz I brawl.

Warhawk is better at peek and shoot (sideways anyway) due to the elite speed of 70+ kph. Direwolf has more guns but don't expect to dance like a ballerina.
