Excuse the clickbait-title please.

Does any of you know WarThunder? They have three modes for their game, Arcade, Realistic and Simulator. Playing in Simulator basically removes all the UI, fchanges the flight model and more. It's the hardcore mode.

So imagine actually having to look at your conveniently placed cockpit-screens! They could cut down the UI to just the crosshair and some other essential function and move all the rest to the screens. Make the UI thinner and more miliatry, like it was in MW:LL.

That would be cool, wouldn't it?

(I know it will never happen but one can dream!)

you realize the difference between war thunder and mwo? war thunder is supposed to be played with the tech of the past while mwo with the tech of the future; that ui that you see in the game it's hud on your helmet's visor, we already have that tech irl for decades meantime ww2 tanks obviously didn't

I'd love it if there was some functionality there, but the HUD is just so useful - though it's a pretty insane FPS hog.

I'd like one of the screens to tell you how many mechs are targeting you.

We already have the sound when you're targeted (quite subtle, only recently noticed it!) and I think it would be a great addition to add some flavour. Maybe just a few LED's that light up, and have a red one flash when you're locked by more than three mechs.

There aren't a lot of things that would completely rejuvenate my interest in MWO and make it a brand new game for me, but a 'hardcore mode' with this approach would do it. Not just the UI, of course, but just making MWO more difficult to play and less like a modern FPS. In a word, more like a simulator. It's a cliché, but... thinking man's shooter.

These cockpits have dozens of different buttons, switches, wheels and *****. Imagine if the controls for the game reflected that. And imagine if you could see your avatar pressing the different buttons based on your input. A man can dream. At least we'll get to experience that kind of fidelity in Star Citizen, to a certain degree.

But who has the time to actually look at monitors in the cockpit when matches last 3 minutes (well, 2 minutes if you take away the part where you walk to the center of the map) and TTK is just a few seconds per mech?

Hardcore mode does not solve anything then frustations. Because:

Some people will put a sticker or a small piece of tape in the middle of their screen and fire away.

Perfect convergence can be such a b*tch.

They said decades ago (exaggeration I know) that they cant because they dont understand how to get the game engine to do it. Around the same time when zoom in zoom was impossible too

It would be cool and immersive for sure, but it might also be a bit too frustrating with the way cockpit screens are placed in many mechs. I'm torn.

The neurohelmet UI approach is also actually consistent with battletech lore, so from that perspective it would make more sense to remove the cockpit screens than removing the UI.

I wouldn't mind having the UI elements in both the cockpit screens and the current UI, and then immersion buffs could turn the UI off and just look at the screens if they want to.
