Ok as long as I've played MWO I have yet to find that 1 mech I just can't figure out, but I think I have.out of my 160+ mechs and roughly 100 mastered mechs I just can't stand the grasshopper to even elite'd status to see if it gets better. I'm thinking my builds are just not good and wondering if someone has GRH builds that half arsed work. I needs help not selling these after playing just 1 match lol XD (FYI have 1 elite'd 1 almost elite and 1 basic, free one added never played)

There are a few that work OK. I know some people like boating MPLasers in one variant. I have a simple 2LLaser, 4 MLaser setup with a fast STD engine I run in the variant the ® uses. I also have one with 3LPLasers and 4 MLasers that is OK.

I'll try and remember to post them when I get home later today if the builds sound OK.

I've had luck with this one--

Wubhopper

There's another more popular one with one more LPL and ML instead of MPLs but, I like the high-heat-alpha of all wubs.

I've done well with it. Grasshopper is a good support mech that can take advantage of other mechs in a scrap. I like to surprise the enemy with a face full of pulse laser/ twist/ pulse laser/ twist/ retreat reduce heat/ pulse laser ...etc...

To become one with the grasshopper, you must play to it's strengths. Energy weapons are light, it is tall and jumps well, and when used with a large engine, it is very agile. This agility coupled with a fairly XL friendly torso means you can spread damage well from laservomit. Therefore, fast jumping grasshoppers are typically much better than slower builds.

GHR-5H--Endo, 4 large pulse lasers in the high shoulder mounts, XL 325, 3 jump jets,15 double heatsinks. Shave the arms for armor tonnage. The large whopper is the best whopper. Fire groups in either left side and right side, or high and less high groups. SHOOT OVER OTHER MECHS. Hunchbacks are your shields. This guys plays like the wubverine of old, and it's easy to get 3 kills 500+ damage per match. Put a warhorn on it.

GHR-5N--STANDARD STRUCTURE, DHS. 8 MPLS, XL 340, 2 JJ, 21 DHS, almost full armor. Alternate is a STD 325, 19 DHS and no JJ's. Medium whopper plays similar to a thunderwub, except faster and with jumpjets.

I usually go with something like this.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...126443d87a1ebfe

XL 340
4 jump jets
3 LPL
4 ML

To poptart the 3 LPL's can be exchanged for 3 PPCs.

Boating MPL's I go with two or three LLs/ERLL.

Strafing and constant movement might be the way to go. The torso hitboxes are big enough that they get blown away very quickly if you're standing still. The arms don't protect enough from the side to prevent them from landing solid shots consistently on the side torsos when torso twisting.

Proportionately its legs are very long and for a heavy its extremely tall. It might be taller than some assaults. It can be fustrating to use at times, its large profile makes it easy to spot and missing a target as big as a grasshopper isn't easy even for the most hardcore spray and pray, trigger happy, cross eyeds out thar. Jumping a lot to take advantage of the leg HP quirks might also a good idea.

I'm still trying to figure out how to use it properly.

Best suggestion: Don't try to use that missile hardpoint. You're wasting tonnage that would go into more DHS or just stronger energy weapons.

Avoiding the use of long duration energy is optimal (ERLL, unless you're using the 5J). You'll end up mostly in brawling range, ideally with XL with some form of wub or med laser.

Thx for the pro tip.

I never realized GHR's shoulder mounts were higher than its arm mounts. I've been doing it backwards all this time.

I run a 5H (I think, the pulse quirked one) with XL340, 2 lpl, 3 mpl, 2 ml & 3 JJ. Obviously you want the lpls in the high mounts.

It functions like a faster wubshee with JJ. If you can spread the DMG you should be successful with it.

Use the JJ's to spread damage. It wasn't my favorite heavy either. Basically use whatever laser/ppc you like or is quirked on the particular chassis. Use big engines, lots of HS, and at least 3-4 JJs. Spread your damage and use high laser vomit alphas to core torsos.

Yup. Two mounts are nearly at cockpit level. Makes for some great hill humping, poptarting and hunckback shielding. (Seriously, once you learn how to stay in the deathball and shoot over others while using your own team as cover, then the grasshopper shines)

In some cases, its better to mount LPL's in the arms for the extra degrees of motion.

Arm LPL's in the J with 6 jump jets could be a good idea. The other variants might go better with torso mounted LPL's. Some grasshopper pilots like to jump on top of buildings and cliffs and shoot down at people with torso mounted weapons who can't elevate high enough to hit them. Arm mounted could be the way to go in some cases. But yeah, I'm a noob for not realizing the GHR's torso mounts were high, and a noob for a million other reasons we don't need to talk about.

My best build so far, ER PPC to soften them up, LPLs for the kill.
