Just out of interest:

Is there any defined legal difference between using the games assets to create a poster for your unit and creating a poster for your paintball event?

Or is that just up to the holder of the copyright to decide?

Well most of the time there is a limited license to use game media for community related products. So let´s say that it was a ingame unit that was holding a paintball event for their members... that would be ok... ish...

A random noob with gimp making a poster for his store... not OK.

Not sure how it is over at your place, but here, every second flyer features stolen imagery. They just hope nobody notices or think they are too small for anyone to care.

It's definately not okay, though, the flyer in this case is part of a marketing campaign for commercial services. You can't just use someone else's work to make money without asking them first.

My line of thinking, as narrow as it may be, is that anybody who both plays MW:O and is an airsofter would be aware of this too, I suppose. I dunno, I'm the kind of person who wouldn't go to an event over something like this, it's bad business and it's damn lazy at that, but I'm rather uptight about this kind of thing.

Be kinda like a game company stealing art from a player huh?

Its usually called copyright infringement. Isnt that the whole thing with why the Unseen ARE Unseen?

Theres a facebook game that has the millennium falcon on it which is hilarious as I work at Disney, and a restaurant that WAS called "Tigger's House" (IN FLORIDA - how the hell you gonna step on Disney's trademarks in their own state) till Disney noticed it, now its an empty house.
