So, my wife, an avid ex-world of warcraft player, has been bored out her mind and looking for a new game to play. I asked her several times to try MWO but she always said "no, its not my kind of game". Today we got talking after I told her it was a double xp weekend and i was going to level up my Arctic Cheater. She asked if other players were as toxic and mean to a person who was a in a new mech, or just new in general, as they did in WOW, HotS, etc. I thought about it for a bit and said that not even since Alpha/Closed Beta could i recall more than a couple handfuls of times in which someone was being an outright jerk during a match. Sure, it happened every once in awhile, but I honestly, it was a rare occurrence. I'd mostly had people offer up friendly advice more than acting like an ass. I told her we get salty and heated on the forums sometimes, but in game people were generally pretty cool with each other. So, with that knowledge, she sat down and tried her first game. And she died in a horribly quick fashion swearing off the game forever and calling whoever killed her a straight up ******* punk and went back to playing Final fantasy X2 on the ps4. .In hindsight i probably should have let her pilot something other than a ACH-Prime, but whatever, at least no one made fun of her. So, thank you for that. :)

Heh. i like having guest and kids try their hand at mwo time to time . i try to give them some insight into the game before they drop but they have such difficulty. nonetheless it is amusing to watch.

maybe you can re convince her and have her pilot a centurion or a storm crow and encourage her to to stick with the team, be aware of her surroundings, and watch the mini map .

it seems these 3 things are what most new players fail to do .

hopefully all is not lost on her and she will find something fun to play again .. all the better if its mwo,

Why don't you have her join one of the stock mech monday dealies. TTK is a lot higher and it's a lot friendlier for new people.

Glad to hear you had a good experience...I got b|tched at for messing around with the trial Dire the other night...

Was just for giggles, and I even mentioned it at the beginning of the match. I saw Krafty and told him not to laugh at me, I was just experimenting with the chassis while we had x2 XP, since any XP I gained would be saved in case I bought Dires later.

He laughed it off and was cool, but then when we started to lose, others started to complain about "yet another fail team", etc.

I've personally had more good experiences with players in this game than bad I'd say, but I would still most certainly label MWO a toxic community, much as EVE turned into, and I suppose many other games, like WoW, etc.

Usually it's not me being the target of it, but I see people treating newer players like garbage in easily more than half my matches...they just have no patience for those adjusting to the learning curve, using trial mechs, practicing, experimenting with builds, etc...

Call it my Elo bracket, but apparently my Elo is nearly identical to many of our fellow forum warriors, since I see them all constantly, so I don't think I'm in a bubble here.
