Greetings all,
A quite common element in this timeline is the use of Helium 3, as well as 'service' areas for DropShips and aerodyne vehicles.
- These all provide some 'pressurized' containers that could be used for an 'explosive and destructible' element featured on many maps and locations.
A side note here: The entire reason for 'Capturing a location' is normally to 'preserve the infrastructure or commodity there'. So wanton destruction of the local area is quite frowned upon. That being said, denying the Enemy a resource could still be a 'tactical reason' for it's destruction.
The issues for PGI in explosive elements could/would be the blast effect,
- as we have yet to see a return of normal 'splash' damage from common missiles.
- a problem that apparently still exists with 'crossover splash' calculations within the engine or game code.
This would be tied into all the normal explosive effects that containers, drums, tanks and pressurized pipes could render at various distances to the detonation point.
- Also used for blast effects of the Arrow IV missile system, and most likely linked to 'destructible environment' effects.
(but apparently Arty and Air Strikes seem/appear to be working? Same code? Or wider dispersion of rounds?)
Reference 'the common propane tank', within this timeline, that gas is not mentioned as being a commonly used element. (in the books, references or games) Most likely replaced with a much safer and more easily procured fuel. With the diversity of Planets and not all having a millennium of fossil fuel or natural gas present it may not be common 'at all'.
Reference: Propane is produced as a by-product of two other processes, natural gas processing and petroleum refining. The processing of natural gas involves removal of butane, propane, and large amounts of ethane from the raw gas, in order to prevent condensation of these volatiles in natural gas pipelines
Now all that being stated, I to would like to see some form of 'explosive' environment objects. Areas where weapons fire would be extremely dangerous for the target as well as the shooter.
- These do not need to be man made objects only, even plant life that produces some form of explosive gas as a by product of its function.
- Methane gas pockets at swampy locations, even Piezoelectric crystals effected by weapons fire can explode or create a large electrical discharge.
(we have both these types of maps now, just need the effects)
