Seriously... there's hundreds of threads about how bad they are and what can be done to make them better.
I'm sure that PGI has analytics that tell them this stuff. Flamers are garbage or wasted tonnage on a mech these days. Their only use, and I repeat only use is blinding someone within 90 meters. That's it. Nothing else, end of story. Even heating someone up to the point that they cook themselves when alpha-striking isn't feasible because of how long it takes.

And they generate more heat on the user than then the enemy being shot. Tabletop value was 2 damage or 2 heat dealt to the enemy.

No. Flamers are unique in that they've always been garbage, and will always remain garbage. At least trash weapons like an IS LB-10X AC still push 10 damage downrange, even if it's far less effective. Flamers? They're just junk. A Machine Gun is a much more effective weapon, and Machine Guns are crap too.
We can't have nice things, because reasons.

I'd love for a slight buff to MGs and a major buff to flamers.
They either have to heat targets MUCH faster or get the same DPS as medium lasers with the downside of facetime, range and heat

If they ever get around to AI/NPC vehicles and infantry then flamers and MGs will have a use (against the infantry). If you have ever played any of the Dawn of War games, that is how I imagine the infantry being in MWO. A unit that moves about and that will occupy buildings. Then along comes something like a FS9 and unloads a bunch of flamethrowers on the building and burn all those infantry, now that area is safe to pass for his lance-mates.

There is only one way to fix this.
Maxheat you can accumulate is capped at 40 (maybe 50),
Flamers do double the heat on target then it generates
and flamer-heat-generation is linear.

Just remove self heat generation and maybe increase the damage a little bit. The rest is fine.
