Soo.. People this is a double edged sword.

On the one hand, you wan to make fun of people who spend money on GOLD MECH, on the other hand you have people spending 3-4 times the amount on star citizen, which in both cases is not to consider BUYING something but making a DONATION to help the development running and getting something in return.

I spent about 300€ On star Citizen and probably double the amount on MWO and I do not give a single damn of what you forumwarriors think about that. Jesus let people wipe their ass with their money, why on earth would you care?!

Because some people are just plain jealous but would rather hide it by insulting those with the money.

You do realize some people here can make $500 in just an hour or two.

If I was making $500K-1M a year, I certainly wouldnt be playing MWO...

I have the masakari pack, have been thinking about upgrading to the khan, but the mad cat is sold out, so the only one there would be the Thor, but I was really put off when they just released them as a $500 single mech...then several months later they added the masakari to it.....If I were to upgrade now, I'm assuming they'd still refund the 250 for the original package as they still don't have options to upgrade packs and just pay the difference from what I've seen.

second most sexy mech ever, and my highest solo damage in a CW match mech. Adder is not bad, its a superior hillpopsniper. But people treat it like other lights, which just fails.

See, everyone has a hobby though.

Said person making that kind of money, very well may have tons of Battletech miniatures... maybe they're a huge MECHA fan on the whole? Maybe their hobby is collecting Gunpla and battletech figures and anything even digital, relating to battletech or mecha.

who are you to judge?

BTW the bloke who has these 4 gold mechs went from 22k in debt from student loans to over a million from a poker tournament, so i guess if you got the money to spare, WHY not?

Yeah me either, MWO is at least a fairly feature complete game after 3 years, Star Citizen? Not so much after nearly 90 million in fleecin..er funding.

At 90 million in funding that game better open my beer when i start it up

You might be surprised if PGI ever released their 'mech pack sales numbers as well.

Some back-of-the-envelope maths:

We know the founder program netted PGI/IGP roughly $5,000,000

Since then, we've had Phoenix, Sabre, Resistance, Resistance II, and Urbie on the IS side, and three waves and the IIC pack on the Clan side. That's seven full packs and two minor packs.

I'm pretty sure the first Clan pack was a major success, but I think the other were less successful, so let's say they got $5m for Clan I and $3m each for the other six. $1m for the Sabre and Urbie mini-packs.

That's $30 million.

Now before you jump at any conclusions, at roughly $200k per employee per year and about 40 employees, just payroll ticks away at $8m per year. I'm sure they have all kinds of other overhead, so let's say $10 million per year in running costs for the sake of getting a nice, round number.

That means the packs have paid for everything so far, but they don't have any bank - which explains them churning out mechpacks like their jobs depended on it; it actually does.

The unknown here of course is MC sales. I have absolutely no idea how much MC people buy.

200k a year per employee is kinda steep don't you think? i worked in a factory with 80 workers and it was only 40k a year, per person plus OT.

Plenty of AAA games cost far more than $90 million to make.

$150-200k average overhead makes sense, employees cost more than their paycheck.

As a proud owner of Goldie and all others packs except Founders, I have to say, that "I can't get my satisfaction" from it.
Shiny skin is really well made.
But a single cockpit item and one unique warhorn is a really bad excuse for 260$.
So named LTD-modules are nothing, but a fake: they are working pretty like a regularly ones.
And a pompous title and bastardized badge are not even worth mentioning.
For example, if I could "equip" all badges and titles from my collection at once - that would be great, but having yet another worthless schild is pathetic.

I am not saying, I have regrets, buying Khan pack.
I really want MWO would live long and glorious life and my sons will piloting my mechs just as like as in BT-books.
And I will support this single living Battletech commercial project as much, as I am pleased with it's evolutionary vector.

But what I want to say, that for a single 260$ mech I want something more memorable and really interesting.
Not a PtW, but at least +50% c-bills income or unique cockpit, or a golden color in palette...
In our RU-community we have a common joke, that Goldie should come with a golden pisser for a complete picture of a luxury Khan's mech.
Da hell, even with Urbies I've got 9 (NINE!!!) original cockpit items and 4 (FOUR!!!) mechs!
Instead of all this, I have yet another Dire-prime with locked camo and +50% aggro from other pilots.

Posted ImageNot a great deal, if you'd ask me...
