PGI would make a lot of money if the next assault mech was the Devastator.
Its stock loadout is surprisingly compatible with the current meta, for an Inner Sphere mech.

It's similar to a King crab, except it trades missile hardpoints for energy hardpoints. Which is obviously preferable in the current meta.

So...roundish.
Kind of looks like the Trade Federation (Star Wars) tried to make a mech instead of those droid tanks and the only thing they got to look at for inspiration was a Marauder.

After the Cyclops? I'm guessing a 95t since there's only the Banshee in that class, and both the Albatross and Cerberus will be within timeline soon.
They're kind of running out of popular/iconic 3050 Assaults after the Mauler is released.
Just the Cyclops and then you start scraping the bottom of the barrel with mechs that are either hideous or duds or both.
...and after that, we can finally start feasting upon the FLD tears in earnest from our magnetic thrones atop the retcon chariots called Pillager and Thunder hawk.

Ignoring melee and the Hatamato ties, the Charger is also one of the few assaults that has notable differences between variants not invented stuff like different hardpoint volumes. You've got your no-engine cap laser vomit primary variants, lower engine capped with jump jet missile and energy variant and a even slower atlas style mixed missile/engine/ballistic variant.
