well something like 2 c-uac-10 mdd doesn't look bad, also you can play mdd with one gauss and some lasers and/or missiles etc so other omnipods are worth considering too
6 missile hardpoints it's his defining feature though

If you like to mix up your builds and want the ability to mount pretty much anything, then the Timber Wolf by a wide margin. You can't go wrong with a Timber wolf. Its fast, tough and bristling with weaponry in almost any combination that suits you. its the iconic clan mech for a very good reason, and is both forgiving and filled to bursting point with both fun and efficient build options.
Also its the first clan champion, so once you have it mastered you might want to make it your moneymaker!
If you simply cannot live without ECM, then your decision is already made for you. To be fair, the Hellbringer does lasers and ballistic + lasers very well, but lacks heavy ballistic or missile spam ability of your other two options and is a touch either hot, undergunned or underarmored depending on your experience with it.
Mad Dog probably shouldn't be picked, if you really want a glass cannon clan heavy wait for the Ebon Jag. The only thing a Mad Dog can do is impressive LRM or SRM volleys. The former is countered too effectively by ECM and good counterplay in their current state to be worth your first purchase, and the second is hot and inaccurate while also leaving you vulnerable.
So those are my recommendations, in order.

The Timber Wolf does everything better than the other two except LRM spam and hill sniping. On the other hand, it has a ridiculously goofy walking animation.

I like bringers a lot better than the TWs, and Hellbringers laser a LOT better than a TW by virtue of no ridiculous nerfs.

Timber Wolf, then Hellbringer.
Just grind a lot this weekend, you can do both!
Timber has more build variance, Hellbringer is very torso oriented. While powerful it's something to know coming into it.

Ok, so TBR gets the most votes in this thread, so which 3 variants to start with? I read get the S, not the Prime, so maybe a C and what else?

You have to really want to play the Mad Dog to get it. It's not like the Timber that anyone with a fair amount of experience under their belt can pick up and expect to do very well with it. Like the Timber, it was one of my favorites from my TT days, so I kept tooling around with it even though it isn't exactly an intuitive mech to use.
As to whether you should choose between the Timber and HBR, I guess it boils down to if you want ECM or not. The HBR isn't as tanky as the Timber, but it can do some interesting loadouts. One other thing the HBR does better is it has a higher ballistics mount positions in the ST, and it has a head mounted E slot, so it can zombie. That's about it really.
