PGI spends a large amount of time and money on bringing mechs into mwo. Some of these mechs become EXTREMELY underpowered (victor). Every Other dev I can think of says "WOW PEOPLE ARENT USING WHAT TOOK US LOTS OF MONEY AND HARD WORK TO MAKE. LETS BUFF THESE CREATIONS SO PEOPLE CARE ABOUT THEM"
Nope not PGI "I know we spent 3 weeks and 112,000 making the victor, but WE dont care....."

??? 99% of devs don't work hard on something, then let if fall into ZERO useability. Why make the thing in the first place, if nobody uses it? Does Canada not have to pay developers money to make content?

You would think in a world with real money and real people, the devs would try as hard as possible to KEEP IN USE what took them REAL dollars and REAL time to create.

Not (trying) to rant on PGI, it's just really odd that they put so much resources into creating mechs, then they abandon many of them. Most devs do their best to keep everything in use, not as "good devs" but as human beings wanting their hard work to pay off, and not sit in a mechbay for 2 years.

??
How do you know they've abandoned them? We haven't even seen a hint at what the big re-balance will be.

They soft touch of quirks smack loudly of the previous meta and jump sniping. These mechs clearly need help and while there is a balance pass mentioned to come, I still think the previous passes were failures.

There is nothing stopping them from quirkly buffing the mech. Look at DOTA 2 they buff and nerf 100 things a month. Guess how many people play that game?

Paul likes to hibernate for the winter...

Except he also does it during the summer. And autumn. And spring...

Victors aren't bad. I run mine with LPLs and they seem to do pretty well. If they could do something with the jump jets, and maybe upped it's maneuverability to that of a Heavy? They'd be pretty good again.

But we don't need to go back to the poptart days. Those were...not fun.

Yeah, but that would take effort and the original quirk guys are probably no longer with the company and the new guys can't figure out the old quirk code or they've been shifted to redoing the old maps (or something).

Or it would be wasted time if it all gets erased with the rebalance

I like the premise of the message. They spend so much time and money into implementing mechs into the game, it does feel like a waste that all that comes of it, is literally an icon(color change though, that's neat) that sits in your mech bay, and a cockpit you take around for a spin every once in a while.

I don't think buffs are the answer the game needs, but role warefare. If there is a sort of role selection that gives you preset buffs, and you can change the role, which comes with its own strong and weak points, and this happens in the mechlab or the mission map screen or something, that's cool and doesn't lock everyone into the buff/nerf cycle that was originally an emergency measure for balance. It lets the game become more changeable, customizable, and if we can get rid of the influence of e-sport min/maxing, it could lead the way towards even greater role warfare.

Maybe stop counting kills. We still get points for kills, but the kill count is no longer a factor, so people try to win instead of farm or lonewolf.

We still haven't been told much of anything about that "game changing" event.

Oki, but from a bussiness perspective you do understand that even they said that the main meat of the profits PGI makes is from packs , and not old mastery packs ( even though new people do buy them sometimes as they are a good deal ) but the prepaid buy to play ( for ~3 months ) new mech packs?

If the new stuff was not as good or was only as good as the old stuff a large part of the buyers ( who are not only nostalgia stricken but also competitive ) would not buy it, at least not as a pre purchase ( not with $ but cbills ) so what is strange that the oldys aren't as attractive as the new shiny?

Hopefully the next big quirk pass will balance to the universe better than anikan skywalker did X) .

And don't forget about the Vindicators...oh wait, everybody else already forgotten that they forgot about the vindicators.

I mean really, I haven't seen a vindy in 2 months now. NOT. A. SINGLE. ONE.

I've been leveling them myself and they're not bad.
Great dual PPC poptarts.

(Also they look f*cking nice. Well except for the left arm's forearm being too long. I'll probably make a thread complaining about it some day)

Nothing starting them either...not as far as I can tell..

I'm a LoL player since beta so I know how MOBAs get balanced regularly. However we're not getting balance passes every 2 weeks or more. Every patch doesn't come with a host of balance changes.

Can you see what is missing?

How many people play DoTA 2 vs MWO?

Well... they already sold us those mechs. So...

It's hard to say, because they don't tell us anything. I wonder if Paul spends so much of his time gathering data and analysing it that he effectively doesn't have time to look at more than one thing at a time. For the past few months, I guess he's been working on the new rebalance which will apparently change everything forever. Instead of trying out the feedback they've consistently been getting from the fans for years on a test server, they'd rather do things their own way. We'll see how it turns out this time.

i've not been playing much the last 3 months. that's part of why. I love my 1AA, Mad Parrot. The Commando's bigger, meaner brother.

I shall be honest to the OP. There is a very sound business reason for why old mechs are "Abandoned".

Money.

It is why we have power creep (that and the incessant whining of fanboys looking for their ultimate tryhardubermech)
It is why old mechs don't get fixed.
It is why there is no looking backwards, only forwards.

Because you won't spend money on old stuff, and it costs them money to fix things you already bought that technically aren't broken and can no longer compete because of powercreep.

Cynical? Yes.
True? And then some!

You want a huge example of this in action? Look no further than WOTC and Magic: The Gathering. How many bazillion cards of the same function are there out there that were made "obsolete" through republishing new sets of different balances or for tournaments where you can only bring certain sets???

You just wait. If PGI doesn't go under, they'll start removing mechs from purchase and bring them back like 'disney classic videos' before they are shoved back into their mythical vault for a decade.

Marketing and business plans. You watch.

I've literally seen more golden clan mechs than I have seen golden boys.
