As title. I use my mic for many other applications/games - never an issue. I play this game, and people tell me it comes out as messed up most of the time (as in no clue what I'm saying). Anyone heard of this and any solutions?

It's a USB headset isn't it? MWO's VoIP doesn't seem to work with USB microphones for reasons which escape me. It's a problem for me too - I have a USB headset that doesn't work (mic only) with MWO, but does with everything else, AND a USB audio adapter through which a regular plugged in mic won't work either.

But only in MWO, they both work in other things just fine.

This game is cursed with bugs that pgi doesn't even create its ridiculous. They change the running speed of a commando and it makes the arm actuator on an atlas bug out like WTF where are these magic bugs coming from? How can people whose job revolves around smashing mwo bugs not take their life?

You need to configure the built-in TS3 Client that is in MWO.

Goto your options, and look under sound/voice or whatever it is called. The stuff you need to tweak are in that area.

By default, the game just uses your sound card, instead of the USB Headset... unless it is set up as the default recording option in Windows.

it won't use USB even if it is set as the default in windows.

Mine used to work..... until 6 patches ago. I thought maybe the patch caused the settings to crap out but nope..... just stopped working in MWO. Works still with everything else mind you.

Not a USB either.

Well, that sucks.

PGI made their sound setup automated (minimal effort required on the user end), but whatever I guess.

The ingame voice behaves different. I have something like 5 speakers/headphones and at least 4 mics on my PC and while most games/apps use the selected windows default, the ingame voice works like TS where you can choose the sound source. not sure where you can config it, though.

My VoIP works great. Have you considered PEBKAC?

I use my headset for TS3 almost daily (and it works great there), yet I have never gotten it to work in MWO. The settings point to the right devices, but it never picks up my mic. Never has.

And it's not very exotic gear either, just an old regular non-USB headset and some Realtek HD audio drivers.

*shrugs* its possible, but:

I'm a competent, technical user.
I'm able to get both USB based mics to work *everywhere* else, including various games, ts3, c3, ventrilo, and voice attack, as well as a basic audio jack mic
I've never been able to get either USB mic to work in MWO, only the audio jack mic. Audio out via USB works fine.
Many people have this same problem, and the vast majority of us have - like most here - configured VoIP setups more than a few times in the past.

There is something screwy with at least some USB audio in devices and MWO.

I call cow flop. I use a USB headset just fine.

EDIT: With a caveat. I have to go into MWO's audio settings and reselect it and save settings every time I start the client.

After logging into MWO.. Settings -> Audio -> VOIP

Does it forget? That's not good.

I have yet to have any issues with my Logitech G35 headset. It gets full functionality, no finagling or playing with the settings and it certainly does not forget.

Clearly its not all USB headsets, but it definitely is some.

The mic in my USB headset work just fine as well. Only, I don't need to re-select it and save with every client start, because it's the default audio input device in Windows.

I do need to re-select the VoIP playback device every client restart, because I want game audio via speakers and VoIP and TS via headphones. The speakers are the default audio output device in Windows, while the headphones are the selected device for VoIP playback in MWO.

The game will only use the default Windows audio device for MWO, until you "change" during that client session. It will remember your selection, it just won't use it when it loads up.

And to make it even more insane, it varies from patch to patch. One patch, it will start using the selected device, next patch, the default Windows device on start up.

Strange.

Process:
1) connect USB audio adapter, plug mic and headphones into it. Confirm mic and headphones are set to default audio device in windows (they are, this happens automatically as no other audio devices are connected).

2) open TS3, default audio selected, mic and headphones work.

3) select USB audio adapter as audio in source in ts3; still works.

4) open MWO, settings at default - audio out works, mic does not.

5) set audio device in MWO to USB adapter. Still hear in headphones, mic doesn't work. Same result with TS3 running (can chat in ts3 while gaming, but not built in VoIP).

5b) tried restarting MWO with and without TS3 running (and confirming audionsettings in mwo each time) in case TS3 is taking exclusive control of the mic. No difference.

6) unplug mic from USB audio adapter, plug it into motherboard mic port. Mic works in MWO and TS3 with no issues.

Said adapter works just fine with *every* other program.

Do you have a second USB mic to see if the problem is simply the one you've been using? Because what you describe is very strange. I did a livestream on Monday morning using my USB headset and had no problems with in-game VOIP and TS3 running simultaneously.

So you have other voip programs you use as well. Have you tried quitting say Skype and trying again?

(Skype is a hog and believes itself better than everyone else).
