However, why is it that the smallest of saplings is enough to counter missile lock - are these special counter ecm trees, made of sheet metal or imbued with static electricity generated by the rubbing of the leaves in the wind??

Was running around in the Testing Grounds and I found a spot where I get it even when restarting the client.
Pretty weird, I target the Awesome and when I'm in a specific spot, I lose target although I can still see the mech standing in front of me. It's a flat area and when I shoot the trees with some SRM's, I get the target lock back.
Get the target:

Walk a little bit backwards:

Shoot some SRM's at the trees from the exact spot where I lose target:

The other think I have noticed is that in both river city and forest colony it seems that camo does make thing difficult to get outlines at range 800m+

DuaAngel - That is incorrect information. The small trees do not block weapon fire. Laser will shoot through the small trees as it passes through the tree it will play an effect. Ballistics/PPC/missiles also fire through the small trees however they will knock down the tree and as they pass through the tree it will play an effect.
That being said I shall talk to art to get a different effect to play when the ballistics/ppc/missiles go through the small trees that way it won't appear it was stopped.

It is funny when you see a light running through the forest then his lock ons are blinking like traffic lights.
It appears that these small trees DO block shots. When I play with double gauss I can see the little impact sparks on the trees and the target takes no damage.
BUT: There is a chance that the range indicator focusses on the tree and not the mech behind, the projektiles do a crossover with the tree as intersection point while the projectile from the right gauss passes the target on the left and the projectile from the left gauss passes the target on the right.
Maybe the object small tree needs another attribute that it doesn't affect the range indicator.

I can clearly see my shots stuck onto trees and do zero dmg to a foe. At least 1 shot out of 2 does this pretty regulary. And it's not a target I can miss, like AWS or DWF in 300m ahead.

test and screen/vidcap this in the testign ground. soemtimes you jsut don't hit the opponent because its landscape like boulders there but you can't see them because of the trees.

I'm guessing it's not the trees, but the fact that the guy you are targeting has radar derp equipped.

This is good testing feedback +1

even this makes no sense, the claim was, tree blcoks LoS, the devs said trees don't block LoS. so no matter if the dummy mech even had any radaderp, the target should not got lost.
