On the plus side, there's a new "match performance" window on the player stats page that'll help us work out how the match score is calculated:

Team damage is tracked, with what I'd guess is 1 point detraction per 10 points team damage done (I managed to hit a team mate in the back with a PPC shot... Sorry!)

Match score has always been lower than damage done, seeing as the old match score had a base of damage/10.
In all likelihood, that is still the base of the match score, but they've probably added some factors to other performance metrics that send the match score quite a bit higher than the old one and also makes damage done less important.
