Hi folks, is there a way to download the patch prior to it's patch date? It's frustrating to be patching on a day when everybody else is doing the same thing.

To add to this, we can choose to patch whenever we feel comfortable or have time after downloading. This way we can free up resources on the server end.

Not getting this..............

You can patch anytime you want, but you won't play until you patch. The only way to play after the patch is released is to download the patch.

Maybe PGI can look into that. In fact, a lot of online games do that. Just doesn't make sense to lag everybody on the same day.

City of Heroes did. It was brilliant. They set the patcher to start downloadoing the patch when you logged out. Thats right, you didn;t even have to do anything, go play, it paused, log out, resume. Manual pause if you wanted.

For MWO? Lostech. Prolly because they are still there, right now, putting the last touches on it and will compile it tomorrow lol. I mean maybe not, maybe they all went and had a beer and left work early cause they that good and far ahead. but if that was the case, then they should allow early downloads.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, having multiple versions of the game playable at the same time sounds like a logistical nightmare.

Not playable. the patch downloads, goes into a holding file, then on patch day the patcher recognizes you have 99.9% of the patch downloaded and finishes installation.

there is no downside, except PGI has to have the patch available before patch day, and code the patcher to start it's download after you log off.

both would be very beneficial to the players, especially like me with JUNK ISP Frontier Communications. I have had patches take 5 hours to download. So much for playing that tuesday.

Do what I do...use Teamviewer to download the patch when you're at work and play right away when you get home. Done and done.

Just start it when you wake up or go to work....

I have no ever issues downloading the patches....most people i know have no issues. Its takes a few - 20 mins at best most times. and OP there is no where other then the launcher on patch day to get the patch. I also have never ever seen a game that did what is described. Seems silly but i also have good internet

Plenty, go look at korean mmorpgs. Just hope that PGI considers making this move.

Lag everybody on the same day? I don't think I can remember not getting max download speed for patches. They have a CDN for the patches you know, not just a Pentium II MMX sitting in a room in Canada.

Let me see if I understand this correctly.

Before the time when the patch is live, the game has been (silently) downloading that patch up to the last bit (not completing it). When you hit to download the patch (the day-time it goes live), it just has to download the last bit of info and then execute it.

This poses a small problem:
While the game is silently downloading the patch, you are playing it, and feeling the stress on the connection, increasing your ping. (Big no-no imo)

But if I understand this correctly, the patch being downloaded previously to it being live would only help on some occasions, due to the fact that PGI is releasing patches every 15 days, the patch would have to be available for download much sooner.

Why? To give enough time for a silent download without increasing the ping too much.

And then we go to the thought of: When is it too much?

Also, by providing the patch much sooner, the chance to include more stuff in that patch goes out of the window.

Yes, seems something possible, but we are effectively trading patch content with ping during play time. The less content, the sooner the patch is available for silent download and the less your ping is theoretically changed.

I'm a bit torn here... for one I appreciate the idea of having less time waiting for the patch to be fully downloaded, but on the other hand if this means higher ping in previous days and possibly less content, then I suppose it's best to leave it like it is now.

Or start the download when you get home. Make yourself a nice dinner away from the computer, take a walk and meditate a little.

Come back in your Zen space and KILLTHEMALLNOW!!

Earlier downloads mean less waiting on the day you want to play.

Having the patch arrive at 19:00 oclock CET and the launcher available round 1 and 1/2 hour later to start downloading the patch is a bit annoying but not much you could do.

It was always like this and I got used to it.
