Wood Hex Fires & Smoke

My suggestion is, and apologies if already raised, but would love to see flamers, laser weapons and other appropriate weaponry set wood hexes on fire and smoke as per TT.

Understand there could be graphical implications for this, but lower end PC's could get the effect placed on the minimap with minimal visuals on the actual screen.

Smoke/Incendiary LRMs would be nice to see also. This would encourage teamwork and tactical play by setting chokes up and also working effectively to screen enemy mechs out of combat if used correctly. These kinds of additions will help thoughful play rather than just all out brawling. It is supposed to be the thinking man's shooter after all.

Not sure what others think about this?

i'm not much a fan of it. of all shooters and simulators i've played (at lack of better comparison) no one really ever used smoke grenades and similar. i guess it could have a tactical use to a higher extend here, i just think it will be left on the side and unused. with the thermal view you could probably see through it anyway.

Valid points there.

Although saying that, it might encourage more thermal view use? I think it's pretty pointless at present. Having more things to worry about in the heat of combat would be more exciting, really putting the mechwarrior under more pressure!

I think we tend to see the same weapons a lot so mixing it up would add flavour especially to the team aspect (I haven't seen too much teamwork going on). Might not be much glory in shooting smoke LRM's at an enemy mech, but if used intelligently it could turn the tide of a few skirmishes.

Of course the last thing I'd want to see is the whole map covered in smoke by some mechwarrior ********.

But at least it will force people to switch views, thereby adding to the tactical complexity. I support this.

Did you see the smoke column rising from that downed dropship in the Frozen City reveal? I'm all for more where that came from.

Yeah that looked great, smokewise that is, and was somewhat annoying (in a good way) when skirmishes were happening around it.

Ah yes nothing wrong with arson. setting fire to a forest or house is a must have... please do not forget the smoke....

Wouldn't the heat blind thermal sensors too. Sounds like a nice layer of depth to slip in.

Smoke was a staple of my scrimaging setup in COD SnD games. It didn't get used as much in TDM's etc. though yeah.
