After playing a little over 2K matches since Fall 2013, and occasionally throwing a little bit of real money at this game, this is the first time I felt the need discuss an issue i'm having with MWO on the forum. I rarely visit this site, but I assume there have been countless discussions regarding everyone's opinions on these maps.

It's great that the developers are taking the time and money to provide what they believe are improvements to the game. Long term, maybe they will come up with some good ideas that will help sustain my interest and recruit new players. But I'm afraid the two most recent map additions/subtractions are not helping their cause.

I run a reasonably high end system and fps is not a problem with all of the updated terrain features. I doubt my rig will have any issues handling any kind of improvements this game can bring to the table over the next few years (if i choose to continue playing). Walking around the maps, it looks like they put a ton of effort into making something visually stunning.

Map size: If it takes more than the length of a match for me to walk an assault around the perimeter, it's too big. I test drove my 152 speed jenner around the borders of endor and it took forever. I'd be interested in timing how long it really takes, but that just sounds like another waste of my time roaming around that map. If this was a 36 vs 36 player battle, it might be a good time, but 4 minutes of walking before i see someone fire a shot (see alpine peaks) is kind of a beating. I was always a fan of Battle Creek when playing the old Halo PvP maps. There was just something great about jumping right into the action from the moment the fight started. Perhaps conquest or assault would be an improvement (unless you are getting capped and are a 5 minute hike from your base), but I'm one those players that enjoys exclusively playing skirmish. I've had a couple hundred experiences with the other game types, but never left those matches feeling good about anything.

Dynamic time of day: NO. I'll let this game have one map that exclusively plays night on every drop, BUT ONLY ONE. Why do they feel the need to have me constantly playing in the dark? If I wanted to play on an Apple IIE with a green and black screen, i'd just bust out some Oregon Trail. Is it just me, or does it seem like it is always pitch black for the final 11 minutes of each drop on both of those maps? Having 100,000 trees blocking my vision and firing line is bad enough, with it being dark on top of that, my face just ends up in one of my palms. I can handle ONE blizzard map where i'll use heat vision, ONE night map where I'll crank up the IBM 360 (and get in a round of Carmen Sandiego when the match is over), and ONE terra therma where i'll just turn off the game and kick myself in the nuts. Any more than that, and MWO will quickly find itself out of my gaming rotation. I've heard the arguments about why those features make the game better, and why I just need to work on my ninja skills to truly appreciate those types of maps, but i'm just more concerned about me having more fun. Have there been any entertaining games made in the past where ALL the levels were in the dark? I have a bad feeling that is the direction the developers are headed.

Old Maps: I already miss them. The most frustrating part is that 90% of RC matches still take place around the citadel. It's still the same fight, just takes a lot longer to walk there. I feel so lost on Endor without the Arch. The new version feels like it's just going to become an LRM campout. I haven't found a tunnel yet, only a worthless beach (d8?).

Why can't they just give us all what we really want to experience... Terra Therma Snow.
