As I'm sure many of you know, there is a Mega-robot challenge going on between the US and Challenge going on between the US and Japan. Cool, right?

Then I discovered this story;

Yes, our friendly, easy going lil robot, Hitchbot, was cruelly murdered while attempting a simple trip across the continent on US soil.

Fair warning, we Canucks are pretty easy going, eh, but you don't want to poke the bear, and killing Hitchbot is getting dangerously close to making us whip up a robot of our own and setting you fellas down there straight.

Personally i'd love to see Canada get in on this. Maybe a PGI employee will see this and they can get the ball rolling. Free press Russ......

It looks to me like that Urban Mech might have confused the local garbageman. If I had a trash can start moving on me, I'd probably kick it to the curb myself and then swear off whatever the last thing I'd eaten/drunk.

It's Philly.

If you know anything about that city, it's sadly not really surprising.

Also, Hitchbot didn't move. Instead it relied on the kindness of strangers.

Only question is whether the perpetrator was white or black. Cause they were only colors I saw during my stay in the city, unlike Cali. :P

Well, the knuckle draggers sure gave the world another glimpse of their 'Brotherly Love'. Since, they took the time to dismantle it, take pictures and then send the pictures anonymously to the creators.

That's so not cool and took time and effort on the part of the perps. Some people obviously have nothing better to do!

Apparently 'the city of brotherly love' does not extend to robots. :unsure:

And playing devil's advocate, the creators should have done a better job anticipating something bad happening.

There are reasons why Hitchhiking does have laws pertaining to the act, since there are plenty of various dangers for hitchhiker and driver alike.

Here's an article commenting on the matter, of the bot: http://www.wired.co....uman-psychology

And there is hope that the helpless bot will be able to continue its journey!
