Which is what the Founders program was based off; no big company wanted to kickstart the single player version.

Not sure how prevalent KickStarter itself (and crowdfunding) was back then.

It wasn't prevalent at all, at the time. You're right though. None of the big publishers, or the IP holder, Microsoft wanted to fund it. And in the end Smith and Tinker, Jordan Weisman's other company prior to Harebrained Schemes closed due to lack of funding.

Most likely they licensed the music for mechwarrior 5. So once they canned that project they lost the right to use that music.

no..that would be the answer to "what happened to that warhammer"

Harmony gold's lawsuit threats were enough that PGI couldn't afford the risk of making mechwarrior 5 so long as that threat existed. Oh and trust me, the second PGI started making money on MW5 HG would have sued them hard for using the warhammer in that early promotional video. So, PGI cut the mechwarrior 5 name and made mechwarrior online.

This game lacks proper music - even ingame. They stated "multi player games have never music" that is rather wrong and I'd love to have an option to decide for myself. Since I like music while playing I had to turn off all ingame music.

more specifically, they stated that music would distract ppl from the game rofl

PGI has many different music tracks now, I think. You hear them in their trailers, their weekly preview videos, etc.

They just decided we don't want music in the actual game. <shrug>

It's not their music.

Look around on various sites like envato.com and you'll see that they just buy commercial ad licenses for 50$ or something like that.
I found one of them while I was looking for music for another video, i see if I can find it again.

If they added music in game the forums would erupt with people complaining about 'Muy Emmersion!'

The opening music was great. Why didn't they use it in the final game?

Better Question - why didn't we get this game?

Mwo was the biggest crowd funding project for a game before star citizen came along...

Well then, that would explain why a lot of their more recent music sounds so generic and overly cinematic then. :P

I loved the dark/industrial/metal style music that previous MW games used, specifically Mercs2 and MW4. Music can add so much atmosphere to a game, and sure some people will switch it off, but at least it's there.

It can but saddly part of the community didn't want it because of the same ******* excuse "distraction"....when you can just turndown the music volume like in any game.
