I ask this because Ive probably had the worst few days gameplay wise than I have had my entire time playing MWO...wipe after wipe after 12-0 wipe. with my team being 5 mechs down within the first few minutes. I hadnt been able to clear 400 damage in my heavies or assaults for days at that point. Now i could see me personally sucking and doing my team a disservice, but when I lose that many teammates so early in the game from people bum rushing....welll...i have to wonder whats up with the matchmaking.

I'm seeing things you would expect noobies to do....triple LRM 15 AtlasS models. people bum rushing into the entire enemy team. I know im not the best but I'm not THAT Bad...

Yet the last game I had I had some 228 and QQ teammates. From my understanding they are big wig tier 1 type clans. or at the very least tier 2. After so many losses I decided to give my trusty Invasion whale a try since all I got where long range fights in the new forest colony. The first thing I heard when I spawned was "Stick with the fatties" and indeed 2 lances came and escorted us in fromt he water....On the way in I saw a ravel 3L just trapsing about int he open thinking he was invisible...Even after drilling him with gauss, your average pilot (at least at mid to upper tier) would have turned around and gotten into cover, but he kept running in a perfect straight line...the second pair of gauss found his legs.

Throughout that entire game I had people doing silly things....things that I only saw before the MM changes when you could wind up fighting complete noobies...

700 meter staring contests with a gauss equipped whale? Check.

Trying to return fire when your longest range weapon is a medium laser? Triple check. By the time he figured out it was a bad Idea I had blown out the CT on his La Machine.

Repeatedly peeking the same corner even tho every time you do you get 2 gauss rounds in the face and some large lasers? Check....

While my team all seemed to move as a unit and even bailed me out at the end when 3 mechs tried to bum rush me.

Ive been on both sides of teams like this. Mostly on the reciving end. The enemy team works adn moves like a well oiled machine flanking, spanking and murdering stragglers. While mine seems to want to all run off to their deaths 1 by 1. If teams are really supposed to be even steven skill wise now why is there such an obvious disparity sometimes. I'm not saying STUPIIID TIER 5 TEAMMATES I AM LEEET TIER 1 PWNZEROR. I'm not. Hell I'll be happy if im considered a tier 3. I cant even drive/do well a freaking dakka whale. The mechs I'm all good at are dual gauss builds. But I can do so much better with said dual gauss builds when I have teams that dont melt in 2 minutes. I'm only as good as the mech next to me.

Russ has mentioned that the maximum possible spread is 2, or +/- 1 if you're in the median tier for the match.

He's also mentioned that it's very possible that people are in the wrong tier right now due to player behavior impacting old data, and it will take a couple weeks for everyone to get seeded properly.

So If im a 3 I can fight the best and get stuck with the worse basically?

Makes sense then...Sucks but i makes sense.

Most of 228 is not tier 1 material. 228 encompasses multiple teams of varying levels along with quite a number of casual players making the total range probably Tier 5 to 1.

QQ also hasn't been at the top of their game for a very, very long time and all their best players have left long ago, with also their second best players also leaving. If I had to completely guess, most might be Tier 2 to 3?

At the same time? No. You won't end up with both Tier 1 and Tier 5 in the same game.

As a Tier 3, you can do one of 3 things:

-Play in a Tier 2 match which has spread to allow Tier 1 and TIer 3. This applies to both teams.

-Play in a Tier 3 match which has spread to allow Tier 2 and Tier 4. This applies to both teams.

-Play in a Tier 4 match which has spread to allow Tier 3 and Tier 5. This applies to both teams.

You'll never play with Tier 5s against Tier 1s. Or even with Tier 4s against Tier 1s.

Well, in an ideal case yes. The more games you play, the better matched you'll be. That's just how seeding works.

I should point out, however, that what I described are edge cases. They're the most extreme lengths the matchmaker will go to if it absolutely has to. If you're playing in solo queue, odds are almost everyone in your game is in the same tier as you.

Now, whether they're the same skill level or not is a different story. Player behavior has tainted the data PGI used for pre-seeding, so a lot of people are in tiers that they really shouldn't be in. This will hopefully even itself out over the next couple weeks.

And Paul said that the release of the "valve" that send people out of their tier in solo has been increased to 60seconds which is why m,ost people get longer wait time. Group queue has been lowered to 30seconds.

At tier 3 you will be the best of the worst or the worst of the best.
