Just two weeks from Tuesday, the Mauler will see life again after a long hiatus since MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries. So I ask the Community: Who's ready?

Cause. . . I. . . sure. . . as. . . Hell. . .AM!

Wasn't the Mauler in MW4? I could swear I used it during the original campaign, in the desert levels.

but yeah. All ready, those Instagram previews look sweeeeet! And they actually made the barrel lasers look sorta like barrels!

Just been earning up a c-bill buffer to make my alterations- you know, the ferro-endo swap, and DHS for one variant that comes without them. Oh, and the STD 300 engines I'm planning to use for them, that's a big one- I've only got one lying around, I'll need three more. Huh. my shopping list is getting longer. Back to grinding!

Edit: Oh dear- I've done the math. Full cost for 3xSTD 300's, 4xferro-endo swaps (90 tonner) and 1xDHS is 11,520,000 C. I've only got about 7,000,000 at the moment. Hope these things don't just turn out to be hangar queens.

If you are not planning to use the missile slots, then it could be XL friendly.

It very likely won't be very good. Ballistic mounts are far too low.

No, look again, the ballistics are mounted low and you expose a ton of your torso to fire them. Aside from that, LRM assaults are generally bad, and SRM assaults don't have a big place in the game atm, just ask the Atlas.

Except the ortho art shows the missile pods are going to disappear when missiles aren't in use. That's the hope it will translate to the model anyway.

I don't plan on using any of mine for LRMs, but when it comes to low slung ballistics I think Mr. Mauler has a heads up on our local 100 ton crustacean, and I don't hear many complaints of the KGC being awful in terms of its ballistics:

If the Mauler is anywhere as tall as it should be (Highlander height since its the only other 90 tonner) Then its ballistics should sit right above or right at the KGCs cockpit.

I don't know what your definition of low is, but it seems awfully skewed to me.

i hope you realize that it matters nothing because you will be in the mauler's cockpit, not in the crab's and the mauler arms are quite lower that the mauler's cockpit

the absolute height doesn't matter much in mwo... what does matter it's the distance from the cockpit to the arms and from the cockpit to the upper tip of the mech

What do the arms have to do with the ballistics that are mounted in the torso?

This is a low mount:

It's not about how much of the mech is below the hardpoint, it's about how much of the mech is above the hardpoint. Even disregarding the missile towers entirely, that's a huge amount of mech that you have to expose in order to hill hump.

ok, then for that ballistic what matters it's the distance from the cockpit to the torso hardpoint... anyway the height of the crab cockpit matters absolutely nothing when we speak about mauler

Sillies.

Mauler will be great if quirks are great.

Mauler will be terrible if quirks are terrible.

This is how IS works, don't you know?

One of my planned (potential) builds is 1xAc20(RT), 2xASRM6(LT), 2xLL(RA,LA). MicroAtlas ahoy! I hope the missile tower is shorter with fewer tubes in it. Although, if it isn't, perhaps that will bait players into going after the missiles instead, unlike my atlas where everybody wants that juicy ac20.

True dat. It's just won't likely be good on its own merits meaning it will require big quirks to be useful.

I'm really looking forward to getting my Maulers.

Planning to run quad AC/5 + medium lasers on one of them. Dual AC/20 + large pulse on another and dual gauss ER large on the 3rd. It really all depends on what quirks they get. Come to think of it, I will probably run very similar builds to what I run on my King Crabs now.

I played in a league with my unit in MW4, (I forget the name), where you had to earn money in the matches and buy your mechs. One of the only starter mechs available I could afford was a Mauler. It's wasn't exactly "meta" for Mercs, but I really liked that mech. I loaded it up with 2 LBX-20s, 6 streak 4s and 2 heavy medium lasers. I love to brawl and I would run up to people and wreak havoc with that thing.
