(OK, before hate is added in this forum post, I just want EVERYONE to know that this is only my opinion, and if you like it, then that's okay)

Mechwarrior has come out with really good lookin' maps.
But there is one that I absolutely detest... The Mining Collective.

The concept is great, and it looks good. But there are a few problems with it. For one, worst heavy and assault mech map ever. Almost all the buildings are too small to hide yourself if you're in a big mech. LRM boats can absolutely demolish you if in a mech 60 tons or higher. Heat has always been a major problem in these types of maps (minus Terra Therma).
Also it is awfully lighted, even in night vision.

If you have your own opinion of this map, feel free to post!

I don't think "LRM" and "can demolish you" belong in the same sentence.

I can agree that it does not favour big heavy mechs, at least not without JJ, decently fast mechs with JJ can do wonders though.

No flames from me, CF, But,

Mining Collective is actually a really bad map for LRM shooters. There is LOTS of cover.

I pilot assaults, heavies, and mediums for the most part. MC is a great map for hard hitting fatties and heavies.

It's just terrible in T4, for whatever reason on that map the other 2 lances just walk away from the assault lance without fail.

Still, not even that bad if you just let them and keep in the cover lane on either side.

The LRM issue however, and this is going to come across as elitist/whatever unfortunately, is almost 100% player caused. If you are getting wrecked by LRMs you are doing something wrong - for the most part even on Caustic/Alpine you can direct them into the sides of hills or the center mountain itself, so a map with tons of cover?

I really like Mining Collective because of all the cover provided, as well as the Vegas lights. But then I dig light mechs :)

This. My ~60kph Banshees murder things. It's one of my favorite maps, and certainly the one I'm most effective on.

Well, if you're NOT in cover, then you're screwed.

I'm very glad you like this map, I just needed to spread the word. But, again, there are some good maps PGI made.

Strangely enough, I never considered this one of the LRM friendly maps.

Only thing I dislike about Mining collective is how unbalanced it is in general.

On either side of the center platform, one side has great cover with those canisters all over the place, other side is wide open with no cover at all.

One side has a 2 lane passthrough that lets a team flank over and around mid with no problem, other side.. huge wall and you have to curtail waaaay around to the right to flank.

Might seem like little things, but there is a pretty big advantage to having equal cover and flow paths on each side.

You get the same asymmetry on Bog, where one team has free reign of key strategic points, and the other has a riskier path.

it forces mid to brawl range engagements with a weird way the cover is always available but also always blocking.

If you have ever been quail hunting with a dog it is like this map. Really good or really bad depending on the quality of the dogs and hunters or if you end up being the quail.

I've found that collective has been awesome since they removed base turrets. Those damnable things really limited you in Assault games.

I agree it can be heard to see. I use night vision almost exclusively and it mostly works. The flow is good in my book. Fights happen in the middle and both sides. If you are getting whupped by LRM you need to stay out of that big open area. Teeth it with a light to learn the map. This place is one of my favorites in any weight class.

Mining collective and hpg manifold are my favourite maps.

Too many big maps that take all day to get to action. Additionally, big maps heavily favour long range weapons and if you picked a short range robot, like most lights, then you might as well afk for 5 mins before close range fighting start.
