So we know that it's coming and many braced themselves already for the shitstorm on metacritic and the steam forums: The release of MW:O on Steam.

But what do you think will happen to MW:O before they put the game on Steam?
The outreachhpg subreddit lists the Steam Release for October, which I highly doubt. Releasing MW:O on Steam in it's current state is suicidal for what is left of this community.

What they said will happen pre-launch:

- PTS of Battlevalue system, which marks a complete rebalance of the entire game.
- New Assault Mode
- Union Class Dropship for CW
- Resistance II 'Mechs injected to the game
- CW Phase III
- Leaderbords
- Scout Missions
- Tutorials

So, what are your thoughts? When do you think PGI will pull of the Steam release? What will they do before that to prevent the hordes of new players from leaving again?

If MWO is really slated for an October Steam release I highly doubt any of that stuff on the list will be be done.

I think that estimation would actually be a calculated business decision, so I don't think they could push that back like they pushed back CW (two years)

That's all they will probably get half done by the time they attempt their steam release. There is exactly 0 reason to believe they are for some reason going to actually start putting in some actual effort to make some serious improvements leading up to steam given the breadth of their track history from open beta until now.

A bit nitpicky but...

-BAttlevalue is not a mechanic, it's a tool used by the devs for balancing. What's coming is a new rebalance update tat the devs are creating based off of their battle value tool.

-Union Class Dropship is going to be the new one sided assault mode in the public queue; Russ said he currently has no plans for them in CW.

And what will be actually USED to balance then? More Quirks?

If I understand it correctly. The new rebalance is a removal of all quirks, then assigning quirks to each variant based on how they perform un-quirked.

Battle Value and PSR will be used for balancing.

Quirks will still probably be in place for some fine tuning... If we don't get an actual heat affects table within a year I'd be surprised (seriously it's so obvious a need, and such an absolute fantastic comprehensive balancing tool, at least half the problems with the current system can be tied to having an all or nothing heat affects table like we have now).

I'm not afraid of the Steam release. Yeah, yeah, Steam has a LOT of trolls on it, a LOT of extremely bad players, but I'm willing to bet the ratio of those players vs. the 'average joe' type player is EXACTLY the same as it is currently in MWO now.

So... Meh... Let's go to Steam, let PGI get a cash influx, and let's continue with our 'mech stomping business as usual...

Without these and a major overhaul to the grind and monetizing system MWO will end up in the sad list of epic steam fails (together with WarZ, Stomping Lands etc).
