Frack The Meta

I'm planning on using my winnings from this Blood Pact event to buy a couple new IS rigs and spec them out with fun builds. Builds that might not score quite as high but require you to use multiple weapon systems in unity in order to achieve the best results. Been running this Timber Wolf recently, nothing crazy, just not ALL LASERS.

So... What are your favorite non-'meta' builds?

I don't think I have a single mech in my roster that's outfitted with "meta" loadouts.

Ultimately that's not what's most fun for me. I'm a "suspenders and a belt" personality, and I like to build my mechs around survivability, and at least somewhat varied weaponry.
My AC5/ML/SSRM SHD-2D is an attempt to take a lore-correct Shadow Hawk "jack of all trades" and make it something that can just about work in MWO. Fun mid-range build, and supremely survivable.
My STD-engined PNT-9R actually works really well, when played as a within-group "light medium". No scouting in this one. It can tank a crazy amount of damage, for a light mech.

Some of these builds are literally "I hope my team carries me" builds. It's fun to do things like NARC if you're in a premade with LRMs but in solo drops you're likely to just be a liability. Mixed builds like ACs+LRMs are just as bad.
So please, think of the children.

I guess the point is that having fun is more important than making sure the other guys on my team get as many c-bills as possible. Plus, with the new tier system people who don't run 'meta' should end up in a different game than the die-hard try-hards. Don't get me wrong, I run both, but this idea that we have to sacrifice using the 'mech we want to for the good of the team EVERY GAME, is getting a little old.

AC/10 Raven (wheeeeeee!)
PPC+MG Blackjack (because twin barrels per arm just looks awesome)
Duelist Jager (inspired by Solahma's XL+Gauss version of it)
PPC Dragon (sword and board like a bosssssssssssssss)
I also run a STD-engine BJ-1 with an AC/10 and 4x MedLas and that's not considered the optimum build on it, but it's a very competent jump -brawler. Also a K2 with 4x ML and an AC/20 on a STD300. The most meta things I run are probably the LCT-1E with either a full set of MedLas or Small Pulse, an Ember, a Nova with 2x C-ERPPC, and the TDR-5SS Wubberbolt on rare occasion.

I like the Panthers for pop-tarting and running and gunning. The Panther 10K with an ERPPC and 2 SRM4s can be pretty good, plus you can still hit 127kph with it. The other versions are good, but laser orientated and may seem to meta for you.
If you want a challenge, there is always the Vindicators. 1AA is quick at 116kph and can use 2 PPCs pretty well. The 1R is slower, but it also does PPCs well with some energy and s missile backup. The 1X is pretty hopeless, but an Ultra5 with a PPC might be OK. It is just underwhelming.
A few ideas from mechs I run.
