"Enough times." (Only once, since posting is always delayed for some strange reason.)
I got 5 notification emails for that post :)

I suspect though that the test will occur on Labor Day weekend, for sure sometime before the official drop date (but feedback won't come early enough to affect the end result).
As always.

I'm very excited about this (and will promptly spend time in PTS after I finish earning 20 million c-bills in the Blood Pact event)!

Still downloading, sounds good from the description

Whatever you guys do for NPE, make sure you don't neglect to explain and quantify the core game mechanics.

New players have no way to find out how structure and HP is calculated, how critical hits work, how damage transfer works (how much HP their mechs even have?), or how the heat system works without asking other players or finding player made guides on the forums or reddit

Just last week I had a friend who I've played with for ages demonstrate that he didnt know that DHS past 10 contained in the engine (so for example the 2 external DHS on the XL300) were only 1.4 'poordubs'. So much stuff like that is not explained in-game, and it makes it difficult for players to understand when they are making mistakes.

The complexity and depth of this game's core mechanics is what makes it awesome, but without anyone to explain it, a lot of new players probably come and go from the game without even scratching the surface of it.

Please don't neglect this before any potential Steam launch.

@Alex or anyone who knows:

Are there actually going to be AI-controlled mechs or is it some other form of "enemy"? That would be HUGE news for this game so I think it would be best if we knew that for sure.

So far this new tutorial system is pretty cool. You get a slightly sarcastic instructor chilling in a white founder atlas. You'll be in new River City. Once you go through the enslaving, basic movement practices you get to choose what to do as (listed in the notes). So far this is quite fun given MWO has never had anything like this before. Also if you shoot your instructor he will step all over you. I'm just warning you. You can also drop in the tutorials with your own mechs 'after' you finish the basic training.

So far my feedback would include;

I would consider using a dedicated map for 'tutorials'. I personally wouldn't care if it looked similar to Metal Gear Solids 'VR Missions', Crysis 3 or Armored Core Training to name a few, simply to give it that futuristic and simulated touch. I would also suggest a merge of Training Grounds and Tutorial. Since the tutorial gives you the opportunity to practice aiming, training grounds is now redundant. The only benefit to training grounds is that you can pick which map you want. I would leave all the new content on River City/ dedicated map just as it has been setup to be. For the front end, maybe when selecting "Training Grounds" you will be taken to a new lobby showing a bridge or something in a ship. Giving you the options to select "Tutorials, targeting, Gauntlet, Running Cored" and all these new practice features. Than select a map. I would again leave River city to all the very beginner stuff like "tutorials". However to still have the other practice modules in the other maps would be a pretty sweet addition. If my suggested merge happens to be added to the game than it should help with practicing specific mechs/builds. I highly recommend adding in ***** shooting. Cmon PGI Do it!! Please don't use those old pilot portraits, they are gross. Use something fresh!

Edit: "S'keet Shooting. Cmon PGI..."

So far some things I have noticed in regards to bugs and fixes are;
- When you change mechs your old arrow on the map is stuck.
- When you change mechs your old mech disappears - Only tried with the starting Thunderbolt
- "Arm Lock" Is stuck on from options menu until after you completed basic training and re-enter under 'explore academy'
- When you destroy AI mechs they disappear

Throttle animation on the left arm is still inverted... :(

When will that be (re)fixed? :)

Highlight: The little guy in the drop area! :D

Too bad he disappears after the cutscene. :(

Thanks for the feedback!

Regarding the quoted point, when you switch to another 'Mech in the Academy your original 'Mech will be moved to its own dock around the Citadel. You can then re-enter that 'Mech by approaching it and hitting K.

Yes! :D

Well, the ones in the drop-in don't appear afterwards (at least I couldn't find them), but when you go to select a different mech, there is a tech behind each one like the picture I linked. The animation is small and looping, but... it's a person! In MWO! :D

Also, when you switch mechs, an elevator lowers you from the mech, you move towards the next one (no first-person model unfortunately, you are a moving camera and can look around) and get to the next elevator. At that point, you can really feel the scale. :D
