My own idea is that they create mechbay / mechselect screens as walk-in features (like the mech switch in the new mech academy).
That way, we could have "ROOMS", not "SCREENS" that we could customise.. and that opens up a whole host of options.. From customisable screens that display stuff, to big-screen displays with user-uploaded pictures, or holiday decorations, or even custom furniture..
Now, add to this the idea od different exteriors... you cound work on your mech in the belly of a dropship, or next to a desert-stuck Mobile Field Base..
And to select the mech you wanna pilot, you could simply walk up to a screen and have the "classic mech select screen", or walk up to a mech and climb into it's cockpit.
Talk about immersive huh?
I love this. It would give you and AWWWW YEAH feeling everytime you launched.
This also allows PGI another art opportunity to sell things for MC, Custom pilot skins, faction uniform skins, medals that can be added for events to uniforms and SO MUCH MORE.

Exactly. These ideas for more customization aren't just about getting more options & immersion, it's also about weening PGI of there dependence on mech packs. At the very least increase the value of mechs, etc.

Yeah, the more selling options they have, the less they will focus on overpriced mechs, and the better the game will get.
My ideas would be a big step in the right direction, and that, in the end, means more players, happyer players, and more paying customers who buy those customisations, but also buy mechs to put in them, and mech customisations to go with the mechbays..

well I was thinking about it a bit
to be honest they could reuse some art assets for building a hangar easily enough
in the old River City there was a small tunnel under the crashed plane, with a bigger section and a ramp upwards (or other ingame places that I haven't thought off, HPG maybe?)
you could use this room, where 4 Atlai can easily stand in (though bit crowded I guess, but for the free one fine enough)
close it off on one side and put a gate before the ramp up
add a room where the pilot might walk into and oversee his mechs
take the whole thing and put it in one of the redone maps (well somewhere underground and the ramp leads out in the open), testing grounds style
just leave enough room when you design things so you can add stuff later

Your idea has merit but I was talking about custom geometry being a big project in that quote.

This is actually a relatively quick and easy way in which a walk-in MechBase could be done.. More than plenty of geometry allready exists, and the whole thing would take maybe only slightly more effort than a map redo..
And I really don't understand why PGI simply doesn't hire more people.. I'm sure that people would actually VOLONTEER to work on stuff like that, both locally in PGI offices and like outside associates.
I know that "Worked on a Big-Budget professional PGI Videogame called Mechwarrior Online" would look amazing on my resume..
When I think about it, just the time I put into posting on these forums and thinking about the game and how to make it better, I kinda allready put in the hours..

I think the only thing you get is the title of "Forum Warrior" haha.

There is so much that this simple little statement/wish implies. If only we could have something that provided us with campaign ribbons. Please, oh please.
A single/multiplayer campaign would be fantastic. Have you done the tutorial? Aside from 5 million Cbills it's filled with immersion.
Being able to put up banners or something to commemorate your victories in PvP or PvE would be epic.

I agree but it shouldn't be shelved for too long. Part of the idea for more customization is to help expand Pgi's sources of income so that they're not so dependent on mech packs.

That is correct... The realisation of this idea would add a new stream of funding into PGI pockets, and would ALSO give the wales something else to spend their money on within MWO.. good for PGI.. and by proxy, good for the players.

I don't think a resource issue would happen here, unless it would normally happen in the Academy, or during a tipical match.
Simply becouse the 3D mech hangar would (or should) be created and work exactly as any other map. Only difference is scale and no mech-hud..
Although, I would also like to hear anybody's reason for NOT doing this?
