As we all get ready for a fun-filled weekend with this new MWO Event, let's not forget what happened on this day and its significance.

To those who mourn, God Bless.

To those who read this, please respect the seriousness of this post and do not troll it with political statements or hyperbole.

I was 9 at the time. I still remember where I was too. Like Marack, I was in the family room with my little brothers. We were watching a TV program so that our Mom could do some housework. My Dad was out fishing with some buddies. Life was good.

Then, my Mom got a call from a friend telling her to turn on the news. She did and was so shocked that I don't think she had the presence of mind at that moment to send us to our rooms, something for which I am grateful now. I remember watching the event unfold in real time and will never forget it. Seeing the second plane hit, the buildings collapse, the rush of the debris cloud as it came hurtling down the street...how could I forget?

My Dad cut his fishing trip short and came home early that day to be with us. We weren't really sure what to do except pray. New York seemed like an eternity from us (we lived in Florida at the time), but it also seemed incredibly close at that moment.

Whenever I think of 9/11, I always think of Darryl Worley's song Have You Forgotten. It's a great remembrance song, I think, although it's a bit of an old one now. A lot's changed since it was released in 2003:

Did you guys not have school? Marack you were a bit young, but still. I was twelve when it happened. The first I heard of it was around lunchtime, sitting in drafting class when the principal came on the PA and announced that we wouldn't be getting dismissed early. The things was, no one had any idea what he was talking about, we hadn't been told anything, I didn't find out what was going on until I got home later that afternoon. I think by that time they had stopped showing footage of the crashes on the news, because I didn't see video of it until they were on YouTube.

May they have found their peace.

I had just turned 18. My best friend was in boot camp at the time and a family friend called us at 7am to tell us we were under attack and to turn on the TV. Back then, at that moment, it wasn't terrorism. For about 30 minutes, nobody knew what it was, just that something large struck the first tower and exploded. We had no idea who it was or if it was actually the first part of a major assault on NY City. Of course, cameras were rolling when the second plane hit, and then everyone realized it wasn't a foreign military. Then you could see people jumping out of the building and the collapse that covered most of NY in smoke and dust.

The younger generation doesn't understand why this day is so significant or living through the year that followed. I couldn't get money out of an ATM for 3 days, gas prices shot up to $15 per gallon over the weekend. Nobody flew and the airlines needed a federal bailout to stay alive. It was a pretty dark time.

I was homeschooled, so, yes, but not in the sense that you were thinking of.

I think it would be appropriate remember this event, by remembering where I was and what I knew when it happened.

I was in a place called Clearfield Job Corps center in Clearfield, Utah. When I heard about it, I didnt believe it. Literally. Some back story for that, the center I was on was 1342 students, we lived 6 to a room, 75 to a dorm so to say the place was a rumor mill is a VAST understatement. For instance, sevberal hundred students had run home the week before because there had been a rumor that we were going to war with China. It was that bad. Add to that the fact that we had maybe one TV to a dorm (which may have had cable but it was always hooked up to a VCR) and noone had radios other than CD players.

So when I heard about it, I quickly dismissed it as "typical Job Corps drama ********". But when we went into our job training, someone had rolled a TV into the room (which was a first in the three years Id been there) and we watched it in what I can only describe as "mute horror". This was a room of twenty to thirty people from all over the world, half of which were quietly crying.
