By the way, some of those groups are rather big so the unit tag isn't neccessarily a good indicator for the tier

Here's a good advice: Don't measure your standing against SRoT. -MS- is all over the place. We can also not really estimate the tiers as long as we can't see/don't know who's where exactly.
It also depends if the PSR standing will be shown in client, on the website or both. An implementation to the website shouldn't really take that long.

Seriously though the only thing you can know atm is if you're tier 1. The way to know that is to see how frequently you see trial mechs. If it's more than once in say 50 games you're not tier 1. At least that's how I know.

According to the Tier write-up in the patch notes, all it seems to says is the following:

So a tier 1 player can still have tier 5 players on his team if the opposing team is composed of all tier 3 players.

It also depends a lot on who you drop with. For instance, if you are a good player who only drops in solo queue, and you are at the mercy of the matchmaker to assign you to a team, then you will have a harder time reaching tier 1. Meanwhile, a less skilled pilot who drops with their unit frequently and steamrolls the enemy team could have a higher tier than you (even if they are not better overall). Make sense?

PSR is tied to your in-game performance, win or lose.

Yes, but it's harder to do well in an uncoordinated team of players compared to when you are dropping with other people who know what to do. Plus, matches usually end up with one team completely dominating the other. This happens in MWO like in no other game

Getting 300+ match rating scores in a stomp is very possible and fairly easy.
