This is the reason there are SOOOOOO many threads about ELO.
If the matchmaker were fixed, the player population would be properly segmented so those who want to play with steering wheels will be grouped with others who have them and those who use mouse/keyboard will be grouped versus them. Well, not just that, it'd also factor in their ELO and tonnage too.
I have a theory, however, that might explain why some people with really high ELO scores are grouped with so many sub-100 damage players...
It might be the matchmaker is actually taking these trial mech/new players with the base default starting score of 1200 or 1300 (not sure exactly the number) and including them in the calculation and grouping for a game. What if the matchmaker instead ignored those newbie players and only grouped +/- players from that range with X number of games... say 50 games with more "experienced" players? This might actually help solve part of the problem...
