I've come to realize that the wierd graphics anamoly is just terribly blurred lettering thats so small and so fine, that no matter how much I improve the game graphics, it doesnt change the fact that the chat still sucks. I still can barely read the lettering, and no its not because of my monitor. The chat box is simply a piece of junk. Its not just me either, there are thousands of players I've seen frustrated to hell & back with the chat.

There is also a chat bug related to JJ use where if you say something then use JJ you will often times randomly be assigned company command.

LOL exactly, I know what you mean. AHAHA oh man, there was this 1 match I was in that this actually happened to 3-4 people at the same time and we were ALL using JJ's xD Every single time we would use the JJ, it would spam the Command sound and it was driving everyone nutts. It was so hilarious, but anoying at the same time.

I was going to write a post similar to this... as this is a clear thing that has to be fixed long before a Steam launch.

3 4 bugs worth mentioning

If you chat with another person for an extended period in the private chat window with another person... a chat buffer overflow occurs and both users crash.

Remember that backspace bug from a year ago (can't hold backspace to delete chat)? That eventually turned into the Company/Lance Commander "elevation" bug that we have today.

Occasionally, the message you type to others in game/match doesn't get seen by yourself, although other people do read it AFAIK.

The best "feature"... I mean bug that has existed since UI 2.0 is that occasionally you may have added people to your friends list or just signed on... only to not see all of your friends and you'd have to "send a message to a disconnected person" in order for the game to see the other person online to be invited to CW/public drops.

For MWO, this game's chat development system is inferior to chat apps as old as AOL Instant Messenger back in the day. Many modern games have developed this into some extraordinary (at least have some basic functionality)... but MWO is far and away "backwards" in trying to get this done right. I don't know how a game survives with a chat functionality that doesn't even have the UI 2.0 promised "add player as friend" from a previous match deal...

http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__2405525

TL;DR
It is what it is, and I don't expect miracles... but man.. I've never seen such a terribly implemented interface in any online game such as MWO.

Maybe someday someone will realize this is important.

I keep checking back to read the updates but Deathlike, that is crazy! It IS important, because any1 whos ever dropped in CW has used the Chat interface once or twice while waiting, I'm sure. What I'd like to know, is whats stalling the importance of this, how long would a workup take to make a User Friendly Chat interface take to make, and will the quality of the chat interface match the quality of the mech designs we so love? If they made a Chat Interface that equaled the quality they put into the freakin maps then this game would have hope for the future. It seems the only real players nowadays that keep this game affloat are dedicated players, casuals, and a very small percentage of new players. PGI ruined the game when they decided to screw the Cbills all up, fixing something that WASNT broken.

Chat needs an upgrade...it has needed this for a long time.

Everyone who isn't in this thread to tell the OP to get a better/different monitor should PM Russ over twitter, #badchat

Don't be ignorant. Just because it works correctly for you does not mean it works correctly for everyone. People have different hardware, different OS, etc. that can cause problems you may never experience on your rig.

First off, if you had read my previous OP, I stated I have a Sony 55" LED 3D HDMI, and the chat still and always will need upgraded even if my TV is 2 yrs old. The Clan Wars Invasion chat is whats tiny as hell. I've lowered my graphics, and raised graphics in attempts to figure out the right variations of pixel quality for the words but nothing seems to work. Chat lettering is just too damn small. Also, the Loss of Chat during combat is very consistant. The bug happens on a regular basis to the point it make me want to put my fist through my screen. I believe most of the frustration in this game can be related to not being able to convey this frustration in actual combat, and thus it boils into heated arguments after the matches. Even carrying over into other matches. The Frustration of losing can sometimes get to me, but the chat bugs are what add fuel to the fire.

I'm seriously fed up to hell with this chat system. When in the hell is this going to be fixed? NOT EVEN A MENTION ABOUT IT IN WORKSHOP? Jesus PGI WTF is wrong with you? This should take proirity over everything else in the game. Communication is key, and when sporting compititions like the new 1 thats out, its pretty hard to coordinate when chat is so fail, its not even funny. Sure its hard to type sometimes while fighting and not all people are able to use the TS or voice communications. A majority of people nvr use it.

Years back I tried to get PGI to do some thing about the chat window because I had terrible vision issues and it was unreadable for me. Nothing. Many threads later by many posters still nothing.

Thankfully I abandoned mainstream medicine and now I can see almost as well as before the IED took it. Still many impaired suffer through.

If they would not lift a finger for the disabled do you think they will make changes for this?

You know what. Maybe they will. Would not put it past them these days.

I'm a disabled veteran as well and I thank you for your service. As long as you have no affiliation with tailhook, shellback, and the cabal you have my respect. I dispise assasins.

So ya I wear corrective lences as well, and I've had vision loss after suffering a concushion when a power cable to the plane I was working on ripped outa the plug and smashed my skull, and nasal cavity in during operation iraqi freedom. Had extensive surgery ugh. People rip the Navy for being on boats and away from combat but the job I did was just as dangerous >.> just sayin. I worked nights on the flight deck of the carriar, and all it takes is a slight gust, to move u a foot where ur standing to get pushed into the exhaust of a turbine, and it can throw you into the intake of another plane and youll get sliced and diced into millions of peices. I cant tell you how many times I almost died, and got sucked into an intake or blown into spinning props. Your talking about wind gusts of 50-70 knts somtimes, enough to pick you up and throw you several hundred ft.

ANYWAYS, got way of subject, lol sorry, ya you brought up a good point and another reason behind my anger for the chat I kept forgetting about. The size of the lettering isnt just hard to read because of my eyes, but just because of the font, and the CW team windows are so small. CW chat is terrible, and so is unit chat. I have a very very difficult time reading anything someone says in unit/community/CW chats.

;) Again thank you for your military service. Its good to meet another vet and talk shop sometimes. I love hearing about war stories from other vets, even if it is grusom sometimes. Truth is something that heals pain.

Edit: for some reason even the forum seems to be buggy now, everytime I hit post, it says "saving post" for like forever, and if you hit post again or more than once or twice it will save duplicate everything you updated 3-5 times and then you gota edit the post. Why is it doing that? Every single time too...

Forum servers took a crap a couple weeks ago and never really recovered. I just refresh the page after it's sat on "saving post" for a while and that usually fixes it.

Squid myself, FTM.. Was deployed in Iraq as bomb disposal with Marines. IED took out my vehicle.
I understand completely what you are saying because the Squids almost always conducting ops on wartime footing. Besides I am pretty sure working the deck on a carrier is about the most dangerous job past maybe a diver. Well then there is being pulled out of the fleet, getting a few weeks of grunt training and sent to disarm bombs. :) I sure hope they stopped that crap.

This topic comes up every once in a while. It's one of those features that should have been in the game from day 1 that still is glaringly amateur. I hope it is on the list before steam launch. I realize it's not an "exciting" feature, but it's a pretty vital one, especially for a game that touts its "online" nature in the title.

Funny thing is, on the last video game I was involved with, one of our programmers built a chat overlay system from scratch with its own server that had pretty much all the standard and expected functionality one would expect in this day and age (resizing chat window, changing fonts, filters, friends list, custom rooms, etc.) in 2 days. Sure, there were a few bugs here and there, but it's not like it's some horribly complex thing to do.

It would do wonders for community here at MWO if we had one. Imagine having a help chat for new players where they could ask questions, for starters. Clan/guild chat. Faction chats. Etc. Just bizarre. But honestly, I'd settle for the core basics of resizable, scrollable, and maintained the text in any part of the game (shouldn't have to lose chat just because the match ended and you're back in mechlab, for example).

Add in in-game voip that needed a manual to get working and most players that got that far you can't hear. I have pretty much figured it's not about our experience in game but how much cash PGI can rake in.

I respect what you did highly, and amen to you that you have returned alive. As for the diry business, wet ops, and hits going on, the cabal is still up to no good even to this day in age, hiring young boys from foreign countries and training them using US tax dollars to assasinate innocent men, women, and children to blame countries against each other to starte fights or even wars. Its sick, this goes on all the time. I'm glad I got out while I could. After the massive UFO scare we had during the war that was it. I had enough of the secrecy and coverups. I liked my job, I miss the planes, they were my babies, but I hated the people. War is awefull, and it fills the pockets of the elite at the expence of human life. I dont like having a gun shoved in my face and told what to do, and what to say and what not to say. I joined the disclosure project this past january as a military witness and lifes been a blessing ever since. The cabal has stopped fallowing me, breaking into my house, but they still send appache helicopters to fly circles around my house everyday. Its anoying, but then again, I love the appache helicopters, I just dont like seeing their guns trained on my house everytime they fly by >.> A-holes.

To reply to the other 2 posts, I agree intirely. I watched a instructional video on youtube that took 17 minutes on how to download a program, to write software code to make your own chat box and server. Its freakin easy as hell. You just have to have a sharp eye for details, and be diligent. PGI has shown that they are incapible of even handling the most basic fundimental requirments for any form of pvp online, and thats communication. If you cant freakin spend a single week building a chat system that would at best be comparitivly user friendly as many current website chat systems then theres no sense in paying PGI anymore. Also if you re-arange the letters PGI, you can spell [PIG] lol :D
