Any Davion units going to be on tonight for this?

I put the word out with our boys, AW has at least one company that still does CW, and I'm going to see how many others I can garner interest with.

Would be good to see a breath of fresh air, and a reason to do CW.

I'm going to do a drop or two as a joke.

The player base is freaking awful for CW though. Crap tactics, people bringing crap builds, defeatist attitudes. It's gross.

Wasn't my experience last night. Sure, there were some pugs with trial mechs when we didn't have a full 12, but some of those pugs also surprised us with how useful they were when asked to follow a game plan. The queues were also extremely quick, which I know is not a regular thing, but the event certainly helped a lot with that.

Also, aside from one drop vs one particular troll unit who happen to be infamous for their mistreatment of...well, everybody, there was good sportsmanship on every match, from both sides, win or lose.

It was pretty sweet, gotta say.

Eh, Madcap has a point. There were some pretty ... interesting tactical decisions in the drops I was in. People seemed to want to experiment far more than is really necessary for a 9 month old game mode (which is cool if that's what people like, but experimenting at this stage being a wash is pretty much a given - it's not something you should expect to win with). I normally just roll with things like that and carry harder, but there's only so much I can do with the trial mechs on my Dave alt, lol.

People throwing up their hands or complaining about aimbots/hax the second they saw even a single player from a comp team was fairly common as well. I can't tell if I missed a Davion inside joke or if people really think EmP runs around with bots and fake alt accounts to troll people into thinking there's only one of them on a team. If it's not a joke, it's a pretty serious disconnect from reality and that sort of thing doesn't help anyone in the long run.

Javin was pretty cool, though. He rolled with the punches like a boss when we dropped against him. We need more Daves like that guy - sense of humor and willingness to poke fun at oneself intact.

Were you on your Dav alt, or your main, when experiencing those types of behavior?

I think us AW guys got lucky, we tended to have the majority on the team, if not 12, and our pugs were largely cool.

The best moment of the night was when one of our pugs decided to go against plan and pushed out alone on Taiga with his HGN...we were all "Nooo, come back, you're gonna die alone," and he just plodded on off, as we started cracking Steiner scout lance jokes on TS. Next thing, the other team is freaking out in chat, because the pug had come up behind one of them unaware, and just basically butt-borked him in their own spawn. The guy was both genuinely annoyed that it happened, and amused at the same time, and his whole team was laughing about it, and we were in stitches.

Later on we tended to keep getting the same few pugs, including the Steiner Scout, and they seemed to pick up pretty well on our tactics, and worked well with us.

I know this isn't normal CW behavior, I'm just saying last night in particular was a blast, and I hope we can have more nights like it.

I played both sides of the event, so both, lol.

Most of the talk about aimbots/hax and comp teams being cheaters occurred on Dav TS with my alt. People saw a single EmP on the other side and lost their nuts, talking about how 4 of the pugs must secretly be EmP alts because "EmP never drops alone because it decreases the effectiveness of their hacktools."

Same with the more interesting tactical decisions. Eg, one game, sending a lance of 60kph assaults out of Sulphur Beta gate to flank Alpha after letting Red Team walk in and take all the high ridges in Alpha uncontested, then wondering why no one could get out of Omega area without being blasted. When myself and a couple others mentioned that Alpha was a really good position for the attackers to take and we may not want to give it away, we were told to shut up and follow the plan.

Those flankers ended up getting half-mauled by the Red Teamers who respawned, lol.

I feel a lot of this sort of thing goes unnoticed in Clan Dave because people still assume flanking, hiding, ambushing, and "confusing the enemy" are viable tactics in CW. So when people like Madcap say "crap tactics", a lot of Davs look at their games and think "Naw, our tactics were awesome. What are you talking about? Hiding behind that one rock with 4 Mechs and baiting the enemy team with Charlie lance totally worked that one time against pugs." All the while not realizing that a stronger enemy would have simply mauled Charlie lance and picked off the ambushers when they were alone and down 4-8 Mechs.

I´m sad to recognise that the rumours about the quality of the AFFS are not that far fetched.

I can't really speak to this, because last night was my first time back in CW after a long, long time, and I personally felt like I played like crap due to not being familiar with the new maps, a new, untested drop deck, and my own readjustment to CW tactics.

Group I ran with won about half the games we played though, and the losses, aside from 1-2, were close, and we had fun.

That's really all that matters to me, personally at this point. I'd love to get better at CW and see Davion as a whole(just because I happen to be in the faction) improve, but only time will tell how it'll go.

Clans happen to have a lot of good teams, what can I say? I try to learn from those who stomp me, I don't resent it.

I can attest to this, last night I played two drops, the first drop was with AWOL and was awesome. The second was mostly a pug match with a 4 man mixed in. We were against a pug drop of mixed clans most didn't have unit tags and none were the same. So I was pretty stoked, just stick together and blast em. Well the leader of the four man decided that we were going to gen rush. Not once in chat did they mention that before the match so no one had any lights and when we start to go in shockingly the majority of the pugs stop at the gates. After wasting the first wave, they then decide that they're going to split their forces in half. Well the enemy not being morons just pushed one group of 6 killed them and went to go get the other 6. It's like you said people after however long this game mode has been out should not be this dumb when it come to tactics.

We did alright, given that the objective was to beat the sum total of Clan players in mwo consistently over 24 hours.

The concept is good but the application is bad.

If people wouldn't push the whole "lerms are 4 noobz" BS so hard it would be a lot easier to smoke clan mechs in CW. With good spotters, uav use, and good lrm supporters, it takes away the clans range advantage, even with the abundance of ECM.

Lurms arent bad for the range, they're bad because they are to easily nullified by ECM/slow flight times/spreading damage all over the mech/proper use of cover. If you just want range then take a BLR-1S/RVN-4X with ER Larges and watch the Clans throw a hissy fit at their range being negated while actually being useful.

Without question or exception every unit that is smoking Clanners is doing it by not taking lrms. If you need the rest of your team to be working extra just to let your weapons contribute that is a problem.

Direct fire, stay with the unit, help spread damage among your team, focus fire and stay on the firing line. Cover your teammates, don't wander off, don't linger in the back. If you're over 70% be moving toward the front. If you're under 50% stay back a bit, do as much damage as you can but don't stay gimped in the field.

Push together and push means push, not poke and retreat. Sometimes you win by being first into the breech and going down gloriously so your teammates can march over your corpse to kill the enemy.

LRMS are good for none of that. Easily countered, they require your team to babysit your needs, you're hiding and leaving your teammates to be targets, there is no damage lrms do that direct fire doesn't do faster and more accurately.

Every successful team does this. All of them. No great teams are rolling lrms. This isn't a debate, we already know what is and is not successful. Our problem is people wanting to pretend that reality isn't what it is and if they just pretend hard enough it will change. That doesn't work, please gear up for success and the good of your teams and your faction.

So true, because once you left the Rangers the faction as whole just went to $h17.

Blah blah blah.

Crazy bitter exes are not restricted to sexual relationships. No more bitter, vindictive ex than a unit member scorned.

"I'LL SHOW ALL U GUIS! U WILL RUE TEH DAY! RRRRUUUUEEEEEE!!!!!!!!"

Then you have the poor form to not rue any particular day going forward.

We need unit-member divorce lawyers. 'I get faction TS visitation 3 times a week and 5 unit members still have to awkwardly pretend we're still friends, in return I'll give up forum posting in faction forums and never, ever message or talk about unit membership again.'
