"Realism" in a game of gigantic robots that fight on other planets with lasers ?

You are kidding me....

Ballistic weapons can still fall under the realism aspect unless the guns in battletech operate completely different from what we know right now.

Of course giant robots fighting with lasers in space isn't something we have right now <_< .. use your head a bit.

I think YOU should use your head a bit if you're talking about realism, or at least "logic"

If a projectile that weights 20 behaves in a certain way another projectile that weights 4 times less CANNOT beahve in the same way.

Obviously it can. That is how it currently works here after all.

Which comes back to the original comment, game balance.
Also making a decent amount of assumptions about weight and how they operate.

That's true but that doesn't mean that it makes sense.

Okay, can we settle this now?

Here's my proposal:

Clan UAC/20 deals 4x5 damage instead of 1x20 dmg. This is accomplished by firing 4 shels that deal 5 damage each. However, it is not the same cartridge used by the IS AC/5.

The IS AC/5 fires a high-velocity HEAT shell with a moderate warhead load so when it detonates on target, much of the damage comes from the impact and some of the damage comes from the HEAT warhead. The high-velocity natures comes from a large powder charge in the shell casing, which makes it hard to rapid-fire.

The CUAC/20 fires a burst of 4 slugs that deal 5 damage each, but theyare low-velocity sulgs with reduced powder charge in the casing. This means they fly more slowly, but are easier to fire in rapid succession. They are given a larger HEAT warhead than a IS AC/5 slug, though, so despite their lower velocity they still deal 5 dmg each.

Good?

Neither does stomping around in bipedal war machines but here we are none the less.

More or less the same concept I was getting at.
