Does anyone know what that thing on the JF flag behind the falcon is ? I used to think it was an old green floppy disk, but that doesn't make any sense.

There doesn't seem to be any readily-available definitive information available in the sourcebooks, but the background element does seem to bear a resemblance to a CJF rank insignia.
The falcon is a specific Jade Falcon, named Turkina.
The sword is a katana, once owned by by CJF founding Khan Elizabeth Hazen.
The foreground depicts a vision in which the spirit of Turkina delivering the katana (which formerly belonged to Hazen's lover, General Aaron DeChavillier) to her after encouraging her to continue fighting after a series of military and personal setbacks.

You know, the Jade Falcons are very (in)famous for being a very conservative clan ...
If the 3½-inch diskette was good enough for the holy Star League, it is good enough for you, surat!

I could have sworn one of the novels described the entire logo as "A green falcon clutching a Katana against a field of Jade and Steel." But I can't for the life of me recall where. That's the one that stuck with me though, as it seemed to perfectly fit what that clan is all about anyways.
I know the ghost bear field of six bear claws is supposed to represent the "claws of the two clan founders, and the Ghost bear that sheltered them as a part of their clan's creation legend. (No Ghost bears do not have six legs.)
I know that the wolf field of 5 stars is significant in some way as well. (I know one of the starts is supposed to represent Kerensky as he chose Clan wolf as his namesake clan.)
And I can't remember what the "field" behind the Smoke Jag logo was, but I remember the pointed sections had some significance to them. Something about the Kerensky cluster, or their campaign in operation Klondike. Can't recall.

Umm... does not the Clan Wolf emblem have six (6) stars, rather than five (5)?
