It was one evening in the murky swamp of Viridian Bog, a chivalrous Mechwarrior readied it's trusty and stunty Mist Lynx for yet another fight, he didn't care about the general scorn his fellow mechwarriors have for his war machine, he knows it's neither the heaviest armored nor the heaviest armed, it isn't the jumpiest or faster either but it has some really unappreciated features this mechwarrior is hoping to cash in yet another time: it jumps a lot and has great arms to attack way bellow in all kind of angles including angles against which enemies are simply unable to retaliate. He hears "Weapons nominal" and grins in satisfaction as the quad clan pulse lasers report for duty as he runs of to face superior enemies yet again.

The battle starts like always, a general push to a centre that is too narrow for much of a strategy to take place, he and some other light mechs run ahead of the battle group towards the twin hills that are broadly in the middle of the battleground and jumps up, it's a long jump but it's well within the Lynx's capabilities, suddenly an enemy light mech runs up the stairs to face our mechwarrior, he can't quite make what it is that is coming because it is shadowed by ECM, then it come closer and the trusty sensors unveil it. It is a Arctic Cheetah!!.Mechwarrior had heard of it but never seen one yet. he stops and dodges behind the rocky walls as the Cheetah lights the dense air of the swamp with 6 lasers, "oh cr**! that's about twice my firepower" thinks mechwarrior, and he does so not once but twice, little Lynx gets quite a punishment but the Cheetah's aim is not steady and damage spreads all over place causing no immediate harm, he fires yet again. "mistake" thinks little Lynx as the cheetah overheats and powers down, Lynx could heavily cripple it, it has time for about two alphas but he decides not to, he stops and takes an instant to take good aim, and finally fires the quad pulses at the Cheetah's cockpit, success and the cheetah goes down, victory under bad circumstances once again!! The rest of the battle proceeds as usual, there are no more Cheetahs around and Lynx ambushes, annoys, stings and fights all over the place, he keeps the enemy in disarray forcing them to stop facing the greater threats on his team to face him, only to vanish in puff of green mist to sting someone else somewhere else, all goes well and the battle is a win for him and his team. Lynx manages to go home again with his mech and a win, but Lynx know that Cheetah is better than him in all aspects; before in all other comparisons between his trusty and stunty Lynx and other mechs our mechwarrior could actually point at something that he had going for him small as it may be, but now mechwarrior has to grudgingly accept that is no longer the case: Cheetah does everything better or just as good as Mist Lynx.

This thread's tittle is inspired in honor of the last major cavalry charge in history that ended in success and not just men and horses machine gunned to death. Respect to the men and horses of the "Savoia Cavalleria" who routed the "Soviet 304th Infantry Division" sabres blazing (and some grenades :P ). It is a perfect comparison to the Mist Lynx status, good execution and enemy's mistakes can make them work but that's certainly the exception.

TL;DR

In any case, I still love my Myst Lynx. It's not as fast, but it's much smaller. It generally has lower heat and higher jumps.

It has it's place, though I will admit it's not as special as it was now that the Arctic is out.

Good story. The Mist Lynx is my favorite mech. I just can't fathom how it keeps getting screwed over with quirks. The only thing it has going for it is it's size, which isn't such a huge advantage. With as slow, fragile and under gunned as it is it needs some serious heat, cooldown and acceleration quirks. It still wouldn't be great at that point, just slightly not as laughable. My favorite build is 2mpl and ecm. It's weak but it's sneaky. You just can't go yolo like in a Cheetah or Firestarter, you really have to have a decent team so you're not the focus of everyone't attention.

For no good reason, I've been having a ball in my MLX-D. Switched out the UAC2 for a regular AC2 w/ 2 tons of ammo and an ER med laser - pulled a crazy 3 kill game on Mordor map.

Have we all given up on being able to remove the CAP for tonnage?

Since Cheetahs have totally made the Lynx obsolete, I figured they were okay to play in - I just can't get enough underdogs in my stables. Fun as all get out, and being small gives you so much more opportunities for cover and concealment - I can't wait to see how the new "Target Profile " comes into play.
