My first time buying something in MW:O and I'd do it again with this 'mech.

I like this 'mech as it's my truly first Assault type and had to get used to it (was only doing Firestarer before) but I had fun with the few drops I played.

Only thing so far I noticed is the CT being easily cored.

I didn't say that it was. What I said is that the stock builds, the ones that were released, are lacking on armor. I was merely hypothesizing that the squishy CT might be the result of low armor and, given that the mech hasn't even been out a day, pilots haven't universally readjusted their armor placement. I don't know about hitboxes and how good/bad they are on the Mauler.

That's interesting. Perhaps then the CT is pretty large, hit box-wise. I'm not sure that the stock builds are that awesome given that the armor placement is what, in the 300s for one of them? I think it's probably mandatory to remove the FF and put in ES, though three of the four do have DHS at least.

The Stock MAL-1P has only 412 of 558 armor loaded. So, yes indeed, a Stock Mauler build will have "many squishy" sections... ;)

I'd like to see what the hitboxes are because so far XL = dead real quick.

I'd like to hear from others their impressions of this mech with XL engines. Only +10 or +15 extra internal structure seems pretty low for a slow mech. Some of the builds I crafted in Smurfy require XL. But, from experience I know that Atlas+XL = Dead For Sure With Low Damage.

I haven't been more disappointed in a mech in a very long time.It really only brings two unique build options to the field that other IS mechs can't and both of them are joke/troll builds.

Thanks guys for your opinions.

Looks like I wait a while and see how the Mauler will develop/be patched.

In the first time I was a great assault fan but in the last time I became better and at the moment I prefere mediums and lights over the assaults due to faster gameplay.
Its less money for me but more fun.

In MW4 the Mauler was allways the last mech befor the Dire Wolfe came in and then I was fine.
Allways loved this beast and still do.

Thanks a lot and have much fun,

Markus

Best of all my mechs in the last 1,5 years is my XL Atlas with 340XL 2xAC5, 2 ML, 2 LRM10.
Maybe its different now with heavy ECM and I havent played it for al long time but of all my 42 mechs its my most rewardable from stats, c-bills and kills.

I finally got to see the Mauler running animation live today! I'd actually been tempted to buy this thing even though I had decided I wouldn't buy any more mechs for MWO. But then I saw the way it looks when it's running at full speed.

Sweet chocolate Jesus... :(

My wallet gave a sigh of relief.

It's kind of hard to put into words, but it looks kind of like when the Awesome is running with an XL350 engine. The mech takes a lot of short steps and its whole torso moves up and down quite a lot. It reminds me of the hippo ballerinas in Fantasia. The movement is very choppy, to the point where I'm wondering if a 90 ton mech could realistically move up and down that fast without any kind of external force. It seems like inertia alone would stop it from 'falling down' that rapidly with every step.

But yeah. Instead of long, menacing strides, the Mauler hops along like an overweight woman trying to catch the bus without actually running.

Well, tried my Banshee with 3 AC5 and 3 ERL again and it was a killer.
So I will wait with my decision for the Mauler for a while untill I see how it performs.

Thanks a lot,

Markus

Oddly enough, more than a rebalance, I'd love to see them do a patch that fixes all of the ridiculous running motions like these. Direwolf frolicking anyone?

Wasn't sure if I was just bad but they do seem to drop easily. I'm running Standard engines with full armor and I still get dropped in seconds.

Maybe everyone's focus firing on the new hotness?

Thats maybe the point.
it was the same when the Dire wolf was new.
Everybody wanted to kill one.
Now the hype is over its a good and murderous mech that also stand a bit of beating.

Maulers in encounters (from a Dire and from Raven view-points) felt like Orions. Mauler needs some bufs.

hahahaha... I think this thing needs nerfs. That is if I compare it to the mid low end clan and IS mechs.

This thing is so good that It already performs if like it got it's elites already.

I think of buying a set of Maulers but I am not sure if he can do/perform better or play significantly different than my other assaults.

I own:
3 x Atlas
3 x Banshee
3 x Stalker
3 x Dire Wolf
Most of them equipped along their quirks with preference on a combination of ballistics and LRMs and the fitting modules.

Is the Mauler that good or that different that it's worth spending the money and the c-bills to buy and equip three of them (complete with individual modules)?

Thanks in advance,

Markus

The Mauler is basically a large Awesome... similar weapon loadouts for Missles and energy, but with the addon of double gauss or AC20..

Its a great mech, but it will not outgunn a Direwolf.

It lacks the MASC and JJ's of the Executioner

It is supperior to most other IS assaults, except perhapse the Stalker and Atlas.

Note: I don't actually own a Mauler. This knowledge was derived from in-game time with and against other maulers, and an in-depth study in smurfy's.
