From the Youtube vids I watched of people playing them , they seemed sturdy, and capable of ballistic trajectory, if you can see it you can shoot it. Looks like a fun mech to play, Better than Gargles.

It does seem like I get CT cored unusually fast sometimes. And here I was thinking the freaking huge STs would be the main problem. Maybe I can run XLs after all....

As I've said on the other threads...

I never see MAL pilots twist, at all. So naturally, I, and anyone else on my team looking, core them out CT.

Actually, it's because the Mauler has a 70 degree torso twist. It can't effectively twist to use both sides of it's body, the side it can make use of it directly dependent on it's leg facing. In addition if your legs are facing your target then you cannot twist far enough to completely block your CT.

It's the same reason why the Awesome feels so fragile- it's CT can be targeted when it isn't facing the enemy.

Don't listen to these nay-sayers. Keep staring ahead at your target. Don't twist. Certainly don't look at the little guy on your backside, chewing on your rear armor with six small pulse lasers. :D

And if theyre twisting, theyre not optimizing their rate of fire.

Same problem the awesome has as well.

Problem with twisting is that its the first guy to twist, loses. I dont have to twist when youre twisting. I just have to twist when your weapons have recycled. The rest of the time I can facetank you because you arent shooting me, and I can pick my shots, while youre twisting back to find your aim again.

Twisting helps, somewhat, keep in mind it's got an EXTREMELY slow twist speed for such a LARGE area of torso compared to other 'mechs of its class, in part due to the arm swing, where arms will swing THEN the torso follows. If you play with arm lock I suppose it's much better, but I can't imagine by much.

Honestly, it's a very subpar 'mech. King Crabs and Stalkers are MUCH better...

Dakka and twisting is not the most compatible pairing.

Yeah, people are forgetting that you can't maintain DPS well while you are twisting, that's why Dakka requires that you choose your face tanking episodes carefully.

I have found, that if I force a staring contest in my quad AC5 dual PPC Mauler, with only one person and not the rest of the team, they get scared and start to twist away, and I end up steam rolling them. Unfortunately, you can't do that if more than one mech is looking at you. Its all about getting the DPS you can get while unmolested, and then getting back into cover when someone takes notice. Many new Mauler pilots are simply too overconfident and think that they will win the DPS battle no matter how many mechs are shooting at them.

really ? i never heard about twisting goshhhhh (sarcasm)
... i know about twisting like u mean it lol. its as normal for a brawler as eating or going to the latrines while inside cockpit lol. but if u have a gun platform like a mauler u aint going to twist much to maintain dps. and yes i twist when backing out or looking for cover while pinned by multiple mechs.
i only openned this thread because all the times my mech whas shot to pieces it was ALWAYS CT. i remember the forums flood... "oh save the dire whale CT plz plz PLZ"

Does have a bit of a damage magnet CT, but i love it. Easily becoming my 2nd favourite assault mech, behind the Banshee 3M, and easily my favourite Ballistic assault (I cant get on that well with the KGC because of the weapons being in different timezones).. Haven't found a build that compares to the obvious 4xUAC5, STD300, 11T of ammo though. That build is head and shoulders over anything ive tried - just find one target stare it down and it either backs off or dies.

Just because you are armed with ballistics doesn't mean you need to keep facing the target and take damage. A shot and fade works because they might waste a laser vomit on a blockade and have to pull back to lose the heat. Just take on fights that you can win with dakka without much damage in return and you'll be happy, until the repair bill comes. :(

Also, use the turnrate to help your poor torso twist.
