This is why lights are so dangerous to slower mechs, the rear firing weapons on all the mechs are removed or put on the front. Too bad they couldnt have left them in the back and used the turret ai to fir them lol

I like this as I know people will rear load their armor and back into fights and that will be funny.

A few mls aren't going to deter or kill any good light build before they core you out from behind.

If you're in a heavy / assault and don't treat lights with the proper caution they will nibble you to death, rear weaponry or not.

Two mlas to the rear isn't going to do jack against lights. All it will do is make heat management more difficult. Streaks used to be not garbage, I suggest returning to those days.

Even the boardgame has moved away from rear weapons. Higher speeds and things like improved actuators means those design elements are largely extinct.

I've actually heard of that tactic in Tabletop, it worked because rear-mounted weapons had a lower BattleValue than front-mounted ones...

That's not correct, actually. See that pair of rear-firing Streak SRM-6s on the brand new Mad Cat Mk.IV from the Technical Readout: 3145.

Rear firing weapons would not work well at all in a shooter game like this. Sure, they worked well enough in a board game because you just declared what you fired and rolled to see if it hit or not, but how would that translate to MWO?

It wouldn't, and that's why there's no rear weapons.

rear mounted AI controlled weapons would be another way to round out a mechs defenses, really would like a couple of srm6 streaks to protect my six!

think that through, what if you are at 95% heat and brawling against an Assault Mech when your "rear gunner" decided to fire on a light harassing you, are you sure you like the idea of AI controlled rear mounted weapons?

Sorry but they would just be too difficult to use, not to mention it would be a much better idea to try to keep your rear armor away from the enemy.

Just backpedal, and circle the opposite direction that the enemy is moving around you. Also try to keep some friendly mechs near you to help out. It's really not that hard.

Maybe it needs an on and off switch?

Exactly. No different than having AMS A.I. target incoming missiles automatically.

They can not handle ammo swaps. If you could trade solid shot for beans, I would equip it.

Oh dear gods... the Timbie D with rear mounted streak SRM6s... I hated that thing in TT.

Personally I'm a fan of the idea though.

Let them try it on the Test Server. Maybe not soon, but eventually they could try it.

If I could mount a flamer right between my Atlas's butt cheeks...totally worth the ton.
