We used to have ammo explosions become pretty much automatic at high heat levels.

This (along with flamer changes) was soon changed because it was all too easy to obliterate a 'Mech, especially back in the SHS days where some Trials would literally shutdown on the first alpha strike.

Yeah...i remember back when ammo explosions was actually something to fear. So much fireworks.
Nowadays it has 10% chance to explode when it's crited. IS mechs rarelly pack CASE because of this.

The problem is as it has been from the beginning of mwo. You NEVER should have been able to stick a gauss rifle in a machine gun mount. The balance issue appeared with advent of the gauss cat clear back in BETA. PGI has yet to listen to the 100's of players. (Most of those whom were 30 year MW vets.) The Gauss cat was the harbinger of doom for balance in this game. Hardpoints need size restrictions. Replace a ML with a MPL? Sure. Replace a SPL with an ERPPC? No frikin' way! Replace an MG with An AC 2? Maybe. Replace it with a Gauss or AC 20? No frikin' way!!! Give small lasers a 1 slot size, Large 2 and PPCs 3. Then you will cut down on the massive number of laser boats to start with. See this thread from 2012!!!!! http://mwomercs.com/...pon-hardpoints/

I agree Mechsniper. This would kill some of my builds but i can adapt and thrive regardless.
It would lead to much longer TTK but PGI have gone down this path now and i think they won't turn back.
Too bad. They could have done things differently but they choose to satisfy the simple crowd who just wants a simple run an gun multiplayer shooter rather than a mech simulator with multiplayer.
