can't use any consumables on the arrow. It comes up critical error if I try.

A lot of the mech's modules have been edited.
Some mechs now only seem to have a single consumable, some have additional weapons and mech slots, All of this seems to mess with slots that are already on the mech.
You need to strip your modules and re-apply where applicable.
