With the ability to play on pre-made teams (4 or 12) functionally specialized Mech variants can truly excel...

Any mech alone is vulnerable - you can't have sufficient weapons for EVERY range and eventually!

When assured of playing on pre made teams, functional specialization is optimum - #Knifefighter (Assault... an Atlas variant foregoing long-range for additional SRM, Med Laser and/or heat sinks); #Gunslinger (Heavy... think Marauder, Warhammer, Thunderbolt - i.e. Armor and Weapons); #Rifleman (Heavy/Medium... think, err...well.... Rifleman, Jaegermech, i.e. weapons at the expense of speed and armor) #Sniper (Medium/Light... think Vindicator, Panther i.e. speed and armor sufficient to sustain fire primarily from one #DoubleDigitDamageProducingWeaponSystem) #Scout (Locust, Spider - speed before all... though #ArmoredSurvivability to actually report back to HQ would be nice!)

While enough individual Jenners, Shadow Hawks and #BaseModelVariantAtlases will tear down any team... a functionally-tailored and practiced-team of 4 MECHWARRIORS will #FightAboveTheirWeight time after time after time

... and THIS potential (to have a gaming application that actually enables the BT/MW gaming experience to a level where there is the potential ability to build a tight team of 4 (maybe 12!?!?) fellow BT/MW enthusiasts) is why I paid Founders money... #WellBargainedAndDone indeed Piranha Games!!!

well said and why i'm wiating to play allso.
i made a post about a hunchy w/3 ac2's and 5 med lasers and max armer, and movement of 5/8 and was down played as a"BAD"
design, as it had xl engine and no ac 20!
well the whole thing is the design is exactly what you are talking about as its design is solely based in team quality play!
and the devs are talking about using "canon" as much as possible to keep lites/meds viable.
soo in tt/canon rules 12v12 battles are run on 3 lances of 4 mechs{3 lance make 1 company of mechs}
each lance hase a mix of wieght class's recon/striker/cammend lances form a company.
RECON: 3 lites and maybe a fast moving med for lance cammender, cicada and pheinix hawke was most commen.
STRIKER: 3 meds and a fast heavy for a cammender,lancelot/catupolt most commen.
CAMMAND: 1 fast med/hvy for scout pheinix hawke or lancelot most commen a direct fire and missile support heavy mech and an assualt as the company cammanders mech.
and is exactly what i expect to see in mwo!
as you can see this keeps the lt/md/hvy's at a good mix with the assualt to hold the line.
people are assuming that its going to be all hvy/aslt w/ small mix of md/lts.
but i'm betting its the other way around cus thats how it was in tt.
tt do's = canon so theres my logic.

sincerly the"hangman"

I am looking forward to joining up with my friends/faction/clan/house mates and going against other experienced lances, companies and brigades. The house House wars will be the ultimate place for these conflicts but having queues that you can join as a Formed lance or company would be very cool.
I could see them using the Formed lance in some of the offset battles that have been suggested. (where they are outnumbered or reinforcements)

I do hope the Devs keep this under control for PuG matches though, no more then two 'friends' together. Having 4 players in one lance who are experienced or expert at working together, against an a randomized lance would be less then fun for the random side.

Edit: formating...
