Convergence focuses on a point at maximum range unless pointing at a locked target in LOS.

Information becomes ammunition (or rather, a lack of wasting it.).

Yeah, he posted in the wrong forum with a negative clickbait title. Still a simple and elegant idea that really, REALLY, ties it all together. In one swoop it solves:

Solid need for scouting mechs to perform their role
Dual Gauss/PPC snipers
Poptarting/Hillhumping
Pinpoint skill now is useful!!!
Pinpoint convergence is still a bit of a thing, but now it can be adjusted with Time to Target for those pesky high alpha builds.

Damn fine idea Wanderer. This needs some serious consideration as it really ties the room together.

While I am all for testing things out and this seems to be indeed a good idea I don't think it would be an easy one to code and implement. If PGI wanted to mess around with weapon convergence they would have done it long before since the given impact on gameplay would be tremendous. Other than that I have the feeling PGI wants to keep convergence as it works now. There have been many more or less fleshed out ideas on weapon convergence, homeless bills being the most popular one, but PGI dismissed them alltogether. I think they want to preserve that twitchy instant convergence for a reason. Maybe they think it would "overcomplicate" things or that the rewarding feel of instant converging weapons is somewhat important to many players. I don't know...
Nevertheless I fully support wanderers idea on linking scouts and weapon convergence. This could really be a game-changer.

+1 affecting Convergence/ weapon focus based on how much intel and target data is available

I like this suggestion.

1. Use infinity for convergence if you don't have a target.
2. Elite Pilot skill unlocks a user definable range if you want the default to be something other than infinity.
3. Targeting computers return you back to the current system where you have convergence without the need for a lock based on your cross-hair range.

The only caveat I have is that ECM will be even more powerful with this change, and so ECM ought to be nerfed, but everyone already ought to knows this. So...

4. ECM changed to increase in targeting delay on an enemy instead of a prevention to targeting enemies.
