Fan projects don't have to be bad, there are some homemade Star Wars movies out there of surprisingly good quality (not even talking about Tydirium - is that even out yet?) with virtually no budget. You just have to find the right people with the right skills.
But what I have seen of that trailer, they are doing everything wrong that you can do wrong. Bad acting, bad props, bad dialogue - heck, they even have a lance of 5 mechs!
