After much Monty Python craze, the Black Knight is coming out soon. How does it fare in size vs. other mechs?

BK vs. the Hopper. Hopper has slightly higher arm mounts, same level navel guns but much higher shoulder energy mounts. Overall height is the same (Hopper is just too tall), but the BK has noticeably lower crotch, which is not good.

Posted Image

BK vs. Orion. Orion is shorter but fatter.

Posted Image

BK vs. Timbie. BK has higher mount (excluding Timbie-A LT), but is also much taller. BK's arms shield the sides better than the Timberwolf.

Posted Image

BK vs. Mr. Gargles. Gargoyle is noticeably larger than the BK, but they both share the same height.

Posted Image

BK vs. Mauler. Two mechs of the same pack duking it out.

Posted Image

All in all, the mech feels right for the weight. Shame about the lower crotch, but a kniggit must have his codpiece, I suppose. That, and the fact one has to expose much of its torso to shoot relegates this mech into a corner peeker.

So "kniggit" is an intentional spelling error?

The Kniggit (official name now) has a really thin waist, which I like. Hopefully shots will disappear between the torso and arms as often as with certain Clan mechs.

The geometry isn't very well suited for MWO, but it's prettier than most mechs, so it's ok.

The thin waist is indeed a saving grace. People should learn to shield with their bigger right arm cause that helmet is gonna catch some fire. I know I would shoot there, given the chance.

To be fair, the TBR's non-penalized mounts aren't any higher.

The TBR-LT mounts at this point come with enough downsides that they aren't a forgone conclusion on most TBR builds with the negative quirks and the larger, easier to target hitbox.

The BK looks to have a very good profile, it's movement type will likely be "large" at due to it's height.

It has much better hitboxes than the TBR, but it can't rely on Clan XL.

By my estimation the CT actually looks very slim - which will be great for STD engine tanky-ness but not good for overall firepower or speed (IS lasers, STD engine weight).

I'm not sure how well it will run XL, it seems to have slimmer torso than the GRH - which is a positive.

To be honest, this is the first day I have been happy with seeing the countdown sneak peak, its smaller than the Hopper but a bit bulkier, I think they sized it pretty well.

And to be honest, I really love the special geometry head.

I really wish it were smaller, but I guess we all knew the Zeus was never going to be the new standard of scaling.

BK has the same height as the Hopper and Gargoyle--and they both have "Huge" profile. PGI's labeling of mech movement types using height is really dumb.

?!?! Yes, BK is taller than TW and the BK weapons are mounted higher FROM the ground, but from the top of the mech to the waist/arm-mounted weapons there is less distance from the top of the TW to its weapons when compared to the BK. Rough measurement is approx 20ish% difference in the TW favor. Coming over a hill, The BK has to expose more of itself than the TW before the BK can fire its low-slung weapons.

Right, and I already mentioned that issue.

Those both have unique profiles as theirs was adjusted.

I should know, I'm one of the guys that lobbied Russ pretty hard on twitter for it and I'll lobby for the BK as well. ;)

They have an override statement added to their code that gives them a climbing angle as if they were Large instead of Huge. However, their invisible pill collision box is still technically Huge sized.

It's just named poorly, "huge" should really be "tall". Which they are, and their hitbox needs to be because they are tall.
