Far too many times do I find myself in a situation where the entire team shifts away from our friendly base, and decide to dance around the battlefield.

That's fine... to each to their own, right?

I think the general disposition is "Combat > Capturing the Enemy Base" because people want their C-Bills.

But what about those moments where the enemy team sneaks into your base while your team is expecting a fight in the middle of the map? Is there really an incentive to go back and defend our base?

They capture the base; they win; so what? It just makes Assault matches boring.

My proposal would be that if the enemy team captures your base, your C-Bill earnings would be divided by 2, and a Base Capture victory would multiply your team's C-Bill earnings by 2, 3, or possibly 4.

This way, Assault matches would be much more interesting because we would now see active defense of bases and assaulting the enemy base.

I think the same could be said about Conquest: if you win by killing the enemy, your C-Bill earnings are standard, but if you win by capping, multiply the earnings.

back in the day, it was more profitable to cap instead of fighting. This led to matches that became pure cap races and no one was fighting.

It was changed but the myth that you earn more for capping lived very long beyond that.

Today, some more incentives for holding the base would be nice, but I doubt taking away cbills is a good idea.

Maybe an extra bonus instead: "base defended" - 5000 Cbills, 20XP; like all the other things (lance in formation and hit'n'run and so on).

I would like to be able to reset cap progress. You go back and drive them off. Then you have to babysit the base because it's half captured

A World of Tanks system where shooting Mechs on the cap would reset chunks of the capture bar would make defending a whole lot easier.
