Apologies if this is a repeat thread, I have searched and did not find anything (but probably missed something obvious).

As I understand the Founders pack premium time starts when early access to Closed Beta (2) starts; 2012-08-07 (August 7th)? Or does premium time start with the "sunmmer 2012" of Open Beta or the "TBD" Public Release?

I assume (and I could be, you know, making a wrong assumption) as I think I did read there would be no wipes afer 2012-08-07, that Founder's premium time starts with early access to Closed Beta (2); 2012-08-07.

On a related note, will the game/client be made available for download (direct and/or torrent) a few days before early access to Closed Beta (2) on 2012-08-07 so it can be installed and players be ready for play on 2012-08-07? (Please note, this is just an ability to download and install the game/client before "launch" - not to play it)

BTW - is there a countdown on the web? Like most other games do before launch/early access/whatever? I am using a countdown app on my phone ATM.

No info on an early download has been released yet. As far as I know, the answer on when premium accounts are activated is:

Quote

Currently let's say that the premium accounts start ticking At Open beta but we will be discussing internally changing this to a method that might give more flexibility as to when it is turned on...no promises yet.

The problem is not downloading 4 gigs (although I have no Idea where you got that exact information from).
The problem are PGIs Web-Servers when thousands of MechWarriors storm their Bandwidth to finally get into their cockpit. ;)

So, being able to download the client a few days ahead as well as a torrent would be excellent. Otherwise, probably even the homepage and forums will be affected.

I think 4 Gigs maybe an understatement, could expect the game to be at least 10 Gigs Minimum, 15-20 gigs wouldnt surprise me either

The Game will go to Closed Beta Stage/Phase 2 on Aug 7th, also thats the date for the founders Headstart...

there is no dates yet for Open Beta, but could expect OB to start from anywhere from 1-2 weeks to a Month after Aug 7th... just depends when the Devs feel that the MWO is in the right condition to go to Open Beta

so no countdown for when MWO goes to Release, but im guessing somewhere around Aug 28th at the earliest, and Mid September Latest, thats my best guess... just depends how long in Development the Devs feel MWO needs before they are happy for the world to play online

ive seen games in Open Beta Stage for over 1 year or more for example... but im sure MWO will not need that much time lol

Devs had stated it in the system requirements, here:

Well, to be honest i'd like this to be changed. It just don't feel right (for me) to pay 120$ in advance with only very little information and then get one of your benefits (premium months) during a beta and therefore the possibility exists that MWO is going live 3 months later and i might have wasted my paid premium in a possibly bugged beta. Nicest thing would be, if founders get all there benefits in the beta, but clock starts ticking only when the game is officially released.

Early downloads are normal in the business.

Though do not count on getting the downloadlink earlier than maybe 2 or 3 days before the founders headstar - beta-access.
Somewhere around Aug 4 or Aug 5 maybe.

The clock starts clicking when you activate your account. You can do so on Aug 7, or you can wait another 2 months - the choice is yours. We do not get beta-access followed by our founder's payed time because after Aug 7 there will be no more wipes. We get one hell of a headstart, that's what the founder's program really is.

As stated before, the problem would be everyone downloading, installing and trying to play on the same day.

Thanks for the replies - it helps clarify things a bit, but with just four and a bit weeks to go <excited girlie cheer> these things need clarification (to me, anyway).

Yeah, i get that. But when i turn fanboy-mode off (and sure i am one) and switch to customer-mode i have a problem with paying for the early access with the founder package and then with the founder-related premium month for playing a beta (which actually means the game is not finished yet and i help the devs to polish it and sort problems out) while having advantages through the paid founder pack.

I do not demand to change this, i'm not even angry about the way it is. But only because i'm so happy that after all these years there's another MW coming. As a fan i am happy, as a customer i am not so happy. Hope this clarifies my post ;)

I, too, expect the "final" release version will be bigger than 4GB. Maybe in the 6-10GB range? Depends how long Open Beta lasts (as more stuff gets added, maybe including things not mentioned beofre?).

I know what you mean, I can't get my friends to buy the founder's packs for the same reason

As long as there are no server resets after the 7th, I don't mind using up my premium months. I get the extra cbills and xp just the same.

Something people are overlooking is that in this state with the 16 starting 'mechs, weapons and maps, the bare bones game is 4gigs.

They have announced that content is planned to be released continously as time goes one (hence the 8gig RAM recommendations) so the game is likely to becomes significantly larger as time progressing and we are met with new maps, 'mechs, and guns. MW:O will most likely follow suit and have players download that initial bare bones 4 gig game first, then go through a gauntlet of patches which will start to add up quickly.

Oh, and a solution to that whole PGI bandwidth? Just wait a day or two for the 90% of the player base (who are still peeing themselves over a chance at beta they won't receive) to download first. Let them deal with all the server error issues.

6-8gigs sounds like a happy place for the game to be. 10-20? Geez, only Rage and WoW get that big, and I'm not sure Rage needed to be that huge.

Even skyrim isn't anywhere near that big.

On my DLS connection, I'm looking at roughly 1 hour per gig to download and install. Actually playing it should be a lag free expirence.

Thats my point tho, content and Mechs may get added during Aug7th CBT 2, and then more added for Open Beta... its a bit hard to believe that all the effects, Maps, Mechs and Weapons all only add up to 4 Gigs ?!? it is bound to increase in size, and im sure there is stuff the Devs want in Open Beta that hasnt been added yet... so im sticking to around 10 Gigs

16x starting mechs? I thought it was 10 they were aiming for with the rest following soon after...

Ok, we've had artwork for 14 so far, but do we know there's going to be any more than that during the first weeks of founder's beta? (I use that term to avoid all the confusing open/closed/closes-2/semi-open malarkey).
