I see Battletech tabletop mentioned a lot in the forums and what not, but are people referring to the old board game version? If so, does anyone play the Mechwarrior miniatures version? I'm a big fan of that myself. Not too sure what people's thoughts on it are, as I started playing after it was discontinued.

Original TT was seperated by FASA orginally as: Battletech, Mini's on battlemats and the RPG Mechwarrior. You could; however, add flavor to your Battletech game or vise'a'versa, by using your RPG character stats when Piloting your Mech in Battletech senarios.
For about six years our group ran a campain that was Mechwarrior RPG but when any Mech fighting took place we would bust out battlemats(Dry erase Hex boards) and Mini's. campains were pretty extensive and often times one engagement would take three or four 10 hour settings to complete. At one point we had 10 people playing with 2 mechs each against our GM(Who is now a Military History Professor), one turn would take 45 minutes to an hour and a half.

Lord, I think Grim's talking about Mechwarrior: Dark Age... the Clix game.
Grim there's kinda a... dislike for MW:DA, due to the rediculiousness that Wizkids did with the battletech franchise as a whole, in fact, Catalyst game labs is currently still running damage control on the series, trying to make things fit and work towards the whole 'dark age' storyline, but still make sense.
Many old school tabletop gamers would prefer that Dark Age never existed int he first place. Not to mention, there's the DERP of the Dark Age Atlas... as the meme says "they worked hard to screw this one up."
Was it a good game, couldn't tell you, I avoid all clix games [though I'm considering horror clix just because miniature game with horror icons.] I can tell you that Battletech: A Game of Armored Combat... is absolutely amazing and completely worth your time, if you have a day to spend playing a game or two.

Yeah, there was that whole Clix "Dark Age" and "Age of Destruction" game, wasn't there? There were a few things that were OK that came out of that... mess... but they're just too few and far between. I mean...

Derp.
