An UrbanMech R-63(S) with three MGs and two lasers.
Another UM, this one an R-60L with an AC10 and a medium laser.
A Spider with pulse lasers.
And a 1V Locust.

We met up in Forest Colony, and an ad hoc wolfpack was formed...and much hilarity resulted. Six of the 12 kills were taken by the light lance...including a Misery, a Firestarter, a Timberwolf, another UrbanMech, a Wolverine, and a Jagermech. Plus we each had eight assists from when we helped take down a Dire Wolf and a Hellbringer.

We just sort of worked together and swarmed target after target. No one planned it...it just happened, Sometimes in the PUG queue it still comes together.

This was right after a drop in HPG where I hid in a place they couldn't LRM me and harassed enemy assaults until they dispatched two Adders to scare me off...and I did my little yappy dog impression and led them to the Dire Wolves waiting around the corner for some action.

Sometimes...it's just fun.

As a Assualt/Heavy pilot I have far greater fear of a wolfpack of lights than I do any other class.

Really? You fear 4 lights more than you fear 4 Dire Wolves?

Multiple times I've droped a Crab and Dire, or Dire and Atlas or Atlas then other Mauler... But 4 lights at once.... *shudder* O would way rather fight the fatties. If I can get my back to a wall, I can wreck the lights... if.

A wolf pack is scary but 4 dire wolves is scarier.

The latter you can feasibly attempt to avoid though.

Edit: clarity

not at all. you can outmaneuver 4 direwolfs, but you cannot do something like that with 4 lights. if decent lights catch you offguard you are dead, if they where just direwolfs, you can actually survive that, especially since they would actually hinder themselfs due to their limited movement abilites.

but of course, this is all in the eye of the beholder, isnt it?

Indeed. I fear lights more than anything since i use KFX's myself. The slower an enemy mech is the more i look at it as.....PREY.

Lots of great matches happen like that. Far from every match but there are some epic matches now and then that make this game great.

I've been on both sides of a light wolfpack... Guess which side sounds better to me?

as you should they are the ultimate assault destroyers (if i am in a mastered assault i dont fear a single light i can kill it quite easy, however if i see 2 or 3 coming for me its ooo shiterdeshit!!! time )

while your dancing around with one the other just kills you...

Yeah, I've been on the other side of that equation in a Victor or Catapult too many times. It was refreshing to turn the tables. Sometimes when I'm starting to hate the game I pull out an Urbie...and suddenly, it's fun again. There's just something about the UM Attitude that you just can't deny. Even when you're accomplishing nothing at all, the little trash cans are fun.

And yeah, I've been jumped by ACHs before. Anyone can rule in Clan 'mechs. This isn't about their 'mechs. It's recognizing that with some luck and teamwork, the IS can play too.

Definitly, the Dire Wolves are Slow and easy to hit, and you can work your way to make them hit eachtothers and annoy eachothers.

But Light mechs?

You have great trouble locking them. Aim them, let alone hit then while you are being fired from all direction.

A Wolf Pack of Light mech is like a group of Pinhrana.

It's been a long time since I saw a wolfpack. They used to happen with some regularity in Open Beta. You can kinda still do them though, just take 3 lights and 1-3 Ice Ferrets.

End of last year, in PUG, on Crimson, sweeping over saddle, our lance of JR7-O (me), CDA, RVN & FSA, encountered and eliminated each member of their Assault and Heavy Lance. For some reason, we found them all alone one by one...

It was an sequential 8 mech feeding frenzy. I almost felt sorry for each of the lone mechs. Almost...

Even when 1 of them put his back to the wall, it didn't help him...

I can target and hit Dires ... When I have two or more lights chewing on my arse, all I can do is aim in their general direction and hope one runs into my fire line.

It's much less likely to find four Dires in the same spot and be unable to get away from them.
