Keep the tier 1 and tier 2 scoring rewards. Make it: Get 9 300 or 400 dmg games to get the rewards, but dont tie it to maps.
Keep the leaderboard+rewards
Drop the map requirement.
Drop the DC counter.
Did you really think the DC counter was going to stop people from DCing? EVEN if the DC counter was up and working properly, this event would STILL have been crap because if ppl didn't get the map they need AND they want to avoid the DC counter, they would just take their mech and suicide charge/overheat suicide and DC. Takes an additional 1 minute to do.
There is no need to have the map requirement if you have a 9 300/400 dmg game requirement. People would still keep playing (and would likely go through all the maps anyway).
Additionally, it's more fair to the players gunning for a spot on the leaderboard because it reduces the luck element of getting a good score on a needed map.
Of course, you won't be able to call it the "territorial challenge". Call it something else, like "Best player challenge" or whatever, but for all *intents and purposes*, it will be a far better challenge than the current one.

As is being pointed out..ad nauseum...it's the RNG maps that are the problem.
At least they did something though.
