I think you might have missed the context in which I typed that - what I intended to convey was that I anticipate statements like that becoming the norm, not that it was my personal feeling on the subject. The peenswing happens anywhere you give people a way to measure against their peers in any way, no matter how trivial. New guys will pop in (especially after steam launch) and public PSR will be just another tool in the arsenal of the already-toxic playerbase. That's all I'm worried about. If we like playing this game (which we must, to still be here) then it's in all our best interest to maintain and grow the playerbase. You don't do that by taking new guys and immediately hammering into their heads how cruddy and new they are. They *know* they're cruddy and new. I'd like to see people celebrate another player's first 500 damage game. I hope to hear someone offer constructive input to the timberwolf with ersl spl srm6 lrm20 and machineguns. I don't want to see them beaten down. I *hope* that it won't turn out that way, but I think the chances of it being anything but a [willy?] swinging contest where lonely unemployed neckbeards immediately use it to tank someone else's day are pretty slim.

But all good players KNOW that is a bad build and will say, "Pick a different trial mech." LOL I know firsthand after using that mech on my alt- it was pretty painful. I've yet to see a new player posting a personal milestone and getting flak for it.

I guess it comes down to whether or not you believe the best players have any insight into how the game is played.

I remember a post from LoL- a typical "I am good, but my team is bad so I am stuck in Elo Hell". We see plenty of them around here as well. Only this time a good player came along, looked at his match history, and showed him how he was building wrong, that he had a poor grasp of one of the most basic concepts, and how it was in fact VERY much his fault that he was not progressing. And realizing that is what it takes for some people to get out of their rut.

Now LoL has a real "pro scene" and esport side that MWO doesn't. And there seems to be many players who don't want to be seen as "competitive". They proudly say stuff like "Screw the meta, I do great in my LBX and LRM builds!" and they will tell this to new players as well. LBX and LRMs are visually fun weapons- shotguns and rocket trails! but not really effective weapons. And I would rather a new player be able to tell who's advice had more weight.

Let me just say first, I applaud your faith in the playerbase to not be a bunch of total dongs.

That being said...

The ones that ruin it are the lonely unemployed neckbeard virgins that don't accomplish anything in real life, so have to increase their perceived self-worth via a video game. They're the sort that finds it easier to put down someone else than actually improve themselves. Those are the ones that I'm sure are going to screenshot their PSR bar and add it to their signature...

But I LOVE your positivity, we should hang out.
