I have decided to try out the options in the faction tab but have no idea how it works.. it really needs a tutorial :0
So I declared my loyalty, and look for a game but it seems anytime I try to enter a queue, its empty
Do you have to be a clan member.
Is there a quick way like the play now button to contribute wherever needed?

Some first remarks from another noob:
Search for planets in the upper right side which have numbers for your faction close to 12 or a multiple of it, or find drops to join to short up waiting times. Depending on time of day and facion you can wait long (i once quitted after 56minutes of wait...)
On the left side is a drop deck wich you populate with 4 mechs, the sum of their tons is recommended to be as highest as posisble but not above max drop deck weight.
if you manage to get into a match be prepared to take a beating. in cw solo players often face coordinated teams with up to 12 skilled warriors which know what they do and act as teams in another level then in the battles the forum calls PUGs...

1: Join ts.mercstaralliance.com
2: Profit !

Btt:
-Click faction
-Click planet (I guess attacking/defending for your faction sound like a good start)
-ADJUST DROPDECK (shows up after having a planet targeted)
-"Launch"
-Check for map (there is that funny thingie with 11 squares ... it shows you which map you will get . You start in lower left corner and count clockwise, the maprotation so far is :
1: Boreal Vault
2: Sulphurous Rift
3:Hellebore Springs
4:Grim Portico
5:Emerald Taiga
6:Vitric Forge
after counting to 6 (Vitric) on the "map-watch" you start the cycle anew ... so tose 11 squares amount to 2 full cycles and an additional Boreal Vault)
-ADJUST DROPDECK TO MAP ( 2,6 are naughty hot, as in "TerrorTherma-or close by" hot, 1 is cold and an extreme longrange map, etc. etc.)
-Stick to the group, kill all the Objectives and mechs
If you need more info have a few looks around the forums or join a TS and squeeze the people there for more information

first put together your drop deck, click on any planet and chose your Mechs, ideally this should include 4 Mechs which you have completed the Elite skills on, as there is a chance you will come up against an elite team who will have fully mastered Mechs, with a full set of modules.
1) look in the faction tab, top right corner there will be a list of planets, find one with a high number on each side, the red planets are available for you to attack ideally you want a planet with 10+ attackers and 12+ defenders, you will find a match quicker if there are more defenders than attackers. the blue planets need to be defended, find one with lots of attackers and less defenders to get a match quickly.
after you join the queue you will wait there until you are needed, this can take more than 30 minutes, matches are formed when there is a combination of players good enough to put 12 together on each side, so if there was a 10 person team in queue and a 2 man team joins it will ignore you the individual because 10+2=12, same with other number combinations.
2) no you do not have to be part of a unit (a Clan is Wolf, Ghost Bear, Smoke Jaguar, Jade Falcon or one of the other Clan factions not yet implemented in MWO), however being part of a unit will probably yield a better experience.
3) sorry but no.
